Job summary

Howard Stein Hudson is seeking a Senior Construction Engineer/Designer for our Boston office. The role blends construction management, civil design, and client management, with leadership of engineers and inspectors on active projects.

The successful candidate should have 8+ years in public works or construction management, be proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3-D, Primavera P6, and Microsoft Office, and possess strong communication and problem-solving skills. A PE is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or advanced degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related degree is required.
• 8+ years’ experience in public works/horizontal construction or construction management is required.
• P.E. preferred.
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, sketches, notes, calculations and verbal instructions, and use them to create multidiscipline engineering drawings is required.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3-D is required.
• Experience with Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project is required.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
• Experience with construction management software such as ProCore is desirable.
• Ability to work in team environment as an individual contributor.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Ability to utilize critical thinking, judgment, and experience to define, analyze, and resolve problems and issues required.
• Experience identifying and mitigating construction project risk is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate engineers and inspectors on projects that are in construction.
• Ensure HSH quality standards, project specs and plans are adhered to; advise field personnel.
• Anticipate a roughly 50% field work and 50% office/remote work split weekly.
• Occasional night and/or overnight work is required.
• Support HSH strategic growth goals for the Construction Services group.
• Attend industry events and engage with professional groups.
• Collaborate with in-house marketing to provide content and pursue opportunities.

What you will do:

We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Construction Engineer/Designer on our Construction Services team in our Boston office. This exciting position combines construction management, civil design and client management. The successful candidate will have multiple areas of responsibility. One part of this role includes overseeing and coordinating engineers and inspectors on projects that are in construction. This includes ensuring HSH quality standards are being met, the project specifications and plans are being adhered to and furnishing advice to field personnel to assist them. A candidate should anticipate an approximate 50-50 split between field work and office/remote work on a weekly basis. Occasional night and/or or overnight work is required.

This role will engage in activities to support HSH strategic growth goals for the Construction Services group. This includes attendance at industry events and participation in professional industry groups, as well as identifying new geographic areas and/or new construction-related growth areas. This position will be expected to engage with our in-house marketing team to provide content and pursue opportunities.

This position is also responsible for managing field-services training and education. HSH expects this group to be at the front of the industry in training and certification such that we can provide our clients with the services they need.
