Job summary

The City of Perth Amboy is seeking an experienced Construction Official to lead the Construction Department and oversee daily operations, plan review, inspections, and staff supervision. The role enforces the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code, state regulations, and local ordinances in a fast-paced environment while maintaining exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

• Valid NJ Construction Official License issued by the NJDCA and at least one valid HHS Subcode License (Building/Fire).
• NJ Driver’s License in good standing.
• Minimum 5 years of supervisory/administrative leadership in a high-functioning building department.
• Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is a plus.
• Proactive, solutions-oriented leader who promotes teamwork and excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Oversee permitting, inspections, plan review, and direct supervision of subcode officials and staff.
• Direct daily operations of the Construction Department in a high-volume environment.
• Enforce the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code, state regulations, and local ordinances.
• Establish productive relationships with contractors, design professionals, developers, and the public.
