Job summary

Jobot is seeking an experienced Construction Controller to lead accounting operations for a growing construction company in Walnut Creek, CA. This hands-on leader will drive accurate job costing, WIP reporting, revenue recognition, and close processes while partnering with project teams and executive leadership to improve financial visibility and project profitability.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in construction accounting, a CPA preferred, and strong GAAP knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in construction.
• Experience with WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
• Experience with AIA billing, retainage, lien waivers, subcontractor accounting.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and financial reporting.
• Experience partnering with Project Managers and operations leadership.
• Advanced Excel skills with construction ERP/accounting systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Hands-on, strategic financial partner and leader.

Responsibilities

• Oversee construction accounting operations including general ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Manage revenue recognition per GAAP and construction standards.
• Oversee job costing and ensure accurate coding and reporting of project costs.
• Prepare and analyze WIP schedules and revenue recognition calculations.
• Partner with Project Managers to analyze financial performance and variances.
• Oversee AIA billings, retainage, lien waivers, and subcontractor accounting.
• Maintain internal controls over project accounting, billing, cash management, and reporting.
