Job summary

The Controller at M.J. Nester Specialty Contractors will oversee accounting operations, including general ledger, job costing, payroll, and financial reporting.

Primary responsibilities include ensuring accurate, timely financial data, managing closes on a fixed schedule, and maintaining internal controls for project-based construction accounting. Experience with percentage-of-completion, retainage, and change orders is preferred; collaboration with project managers and executives will guide

Qualifications

• Progressive accounting experience including responsibility for the general ledger, close, and financial statement preparation.
• Construction or project-based accounting experience, including job costing and work in progress.
• Experience with progress billing, lien requirements, and payroll reporting.
• CPA or CCIFP credential preferred.
• Experience supervising accounting staff.

Responsibilities

• Own the general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting policies of the company.
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close on a published schedule.
• Perform and review account reconciliations, including bank, credit card, loan, and balance sheet accounts.
• Maintain fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and reconciliation to fleet and equipment records.
• Maintain accrual practices appropriate to a construction contractor, including accrued payroll, accrued costs, and unbilled revenue.
• Produce work in progress reporting and project margin analysis; track change orders through their lifecycle.
