Job summary

MJ Nester Specialty Contractors, based in the greater Philadelphia area, seeks a Controller to lead accounting operations across general ledger, job costing, payroll, and financial reporting for a growing construction contractor.

The role requires strong expertise in construction accounting, month-end close, and internal controls, with responsibility for WIP, progress billings, lien management, and collaboration with project managers to review cost-to-complete estimates and ensure timely,

Qualifications

• Progressive accounting experience including responsibility for the general ledger, close, and financial statement preparation.
• Construction accounting experience, including job costing, work in progress, retainage, and change order accounting.
• Experience with progress billing, lien and notice requirements, and lien waiver administration.
• Payroll experience including multi-state, certified payroll, and prevailing wage where applicable.
• Experience designing and operating internal controls in a smaller organization with limited separation of duties.
• Experience supporting bank, surety, and insurance reporting requirements.
• Experience supervising accounting staff.

Responsibilities

• Own the general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting policies of the company.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close on a published schedule.
• Perform and review account reconciliations including bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts.
• Maintain fixed asset accounting including depreciation and disposals.
• Maintain accrual practices for construction accounting and unbilled revenue.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, work in progress schedules, backlog reporting, and job margin reporting.
