Job summary

Smartsearchonline in Costa Mesa, CA, is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the financial operations of a multi-project construction business. The role requires hands-on leadership of general ledger, cost accounting, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition for long-term contracts.

You will partner with operations and management, ensure US GAAP compliance, manage audits, and drive process improvements using Microsoft Dynamics.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license required.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, construction industry preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience leading accounting teams.
• Expertise in project accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition for long-term contracts.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics ERP systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, cash management, and related accounting operations.
• Prepare and review timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes with calendars, ownership, and controls.
• Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Prepare documentation for annual audits.
