Job summary

BBSI is partnering with a long-established General Engineering Contractor in San Marcos, CA, to hire a hands-on Controller who knows construction accounting and can keep projects, financials and operations moving smoothly.

The Controller will own the numbers, work directly with leadership, and serve as a strategic advisor to drive informed financial and operational decisions as the company grows. Foundation Software experience is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience as a Controller or accounting Manager.
• Strong construction accounting experience required.
• Foundation Software experience required.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
• Experience with WIP reporting and job costing.
• Knowledge of certified payroll and prevailing wage requirements.
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to manage a team, multiple priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements.
• Manage WIP reporting, job costing and project financial reporting.
• Oversee AP, AR, general ledger and account reconciliations.
• Coordinate quarterly financials, year-end close and tax preparation with the company's CPA.
• Support and oversee certified payroll and prevailing wage requirements.
• Work directly with banking, bonding and insurance partners.
• Coordinate insurance renewals and audits.
• Assist with Workers' Compensation, Auto and General Liability claims.
• Support 401(k) annual filings and audits.
• Manage contractor registrations, certifications and renewals.
• Complete customer and contractor pre-qualifications.
• Maintain strong internal accounting controls and GAAP compliance.
• Provide financial reporting, analysis and recommendations to company leadership.
• Support and oversee accounting and administrative personnel.
