Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant construction exposure.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience managing accounting for multiple entities and consolidations.
  • CPA or CMA designation preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the complete accounting cycle for multiple construction and development entities.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

  • Ensure timely and accurate month end and year end close processes.

Commercial Construction & Development

Compensation: $140,000 to $160,000 annually

CONFIDENTIAL OPPORTUNITY

Position Overview

A privately held commercial construction and development company is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the organization's accounting and financial reporting functions.

This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing construction accounting, multi entity financial reporting, consolidated financials, job cost, work in progress reporting, cash management, and overall accounting operations.

The ideal candidate brings significant construction accounting experience, understands the financial complexities of both construction and development, and is highly proficient in industry specific accounting and project management systems.

This position will work closely with executive leadership and operational teams to provide accurate financial information, strengthen financial controls, improve reporting, and support the continued growth of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Accounting
  • Oversee the complete accounting cycle for multiple construction and development entities.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage consolidated financial reporting across multiple related entities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month end and year end close processes.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure proper accounting treatment across all entities.
  • Prepare financial reporting and analysis for executive leadership.
  • Maintain appropriate internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
  • Coordinate with outside CPA firms regarding tax preparation, audits, reviews, and year end reporting.
Construction Accounting
  • Oversee all aspects of construction accounting, including job cost, work in progress reporting, percentage of completion accounting, and project profitability.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly WIP schedules.
  • Review project costs, committed costs, budgets, forecasts, billings, and profitability.
  • Partner with Project Managers, Project Executives, Preconstruction, and Operations to ensure accurate financial reporting at the project level.
  • Monitor project performance and identify financial risks, cost trends, and potential variances.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, subcontractor payments, retention, and project billing.
  • Ensure proper tracking and reconciliation of contracts, change orders, commitments, and project costs.
Development and Multi Entity Accounting
  • Manage accounting for multiple legal entities, including construction and development related entities.
  • Prepare intercompany reconciliations and consolidating entries.
  • Manage financial reporting for development projects, including project costs, capitalization, funding, and related financial activity.
  • Maintain accurate accounting and reporting for ownership structures, joint ventures, or related entities as applicable.
  • Support financial analysis associated with new development opportunities and company investments.
Cash Management and Financial Planning
  • Oversee company cash flow and cash management across multiple entities.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and support short and long term financial planning.
  • Manage banking relationships and reporting requirements.
  • Assist executive leadership with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and strategic planning.
  • Provide meaningful financial analysis to support business decisions and company growth.
Systems and Process Improvement
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of construction accounting and project management technology.
  • Lead accounting system improvements, reporting enhancements, and process efficiencies.
  • Ensure financial information flows accurately between accounting and operational systems.
  • Develop standardized processes that improve accuracy, accountability, and visibility across the organization.
Software Experience

Strong experience with construction accounting and project management platforms is required, including:

  • Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate / Timberline
  • Textura
  • Procore
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and experience with additional accounting, payroll, financial reporting, banking, and construction technology platforms.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Significant experience within commercial construction required.
  • Strong construction accounting knowledge, including WIP, job cost, percentage of completion, billing, retention, and project financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience managing accounting for multiple entities.
  • Strong experience preparing consolidated financial statements.
  • Experience with real estate development or development accounting strongly preferred.
  • Advanced experience with Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate required.
  • Experience with Textura and Procore strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience managing accounting teams and developing accounting processes and controls.
  • CPA or CMA designation preferred but not required.

They will be a hands on leader who can manage day to day accounting operations while also helping strengthen systems, processes, reporting, and financial strategy as the organization continues to grow.

Compensation

Base Salary: $140,000 to $160,000 annually

Final compensation will be based on experience, construction accounting background, systems expertise, and overall qualifications.
