Job summary

LVI Associates is seeking an experienced Construction Controller to oversee all financial operations and act as a strategic partner to executive leadership in a self-perform heavy civil environment. You will lead the accounting team, manage cash flow and WIP, and drive process improvements across project-based accounting.

The role requires 7+ years in construction accounting, proficiency with Vista by Viewpoint, and strong knowledge of ASC 606.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of construction accounting/finance experience, including leadership
  • Background with a self-perform heavy civil, marine, or infrastructure contractor required
  • Strong expertise in: job costing & WIP reporting, ASC 606 revenue recognition
  • Proficiency with Vista by Viewpoint (REQUIRED)
  • Proven ability to lead and develop an accounting team
  • Strong financial modelling, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the accounting and finance team, driving performance and accountability
  • Partner with executive leadership to shape financial strategy and company growth
  • Own financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes
  • Manage cash flow, including rolling 13-week forecasts tied to project billing cycles
  • Oversee cost-to-complete projections, WIP schedules, and margin analysis
  • Oversee job cost accounting across all active projects, tracking performance vs. estimate
  • Partner with Operations to ensure accurate cost coding for labor, equipment, and materials
  • Drive accountability across project teams for financial accuracy and reporting
  • Serve as system owner for Vista by Viewpoint, including configuration and reporting
  • Lead integration with project management platforms (e.g., InEight)
  • Optimize workflows across accounting, finance, and project operations
  • Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce risk
  • Manage owned equipment financial performance, utilization, and internal rate structures
  • Conduct analysis on owned vs. rented equipment and fleet depreciation
  • Ensure accuracy of labor and equipment burden rates
  • Oversee audits, tax reporting, and financial compliance
  • Manage relationships with bonding agents, lenders, CPA firms, and insurers
  • Maintain financial documentation to support bonding capacity and company growth
  • Ensure compliance with contractor regulations, certified payroll, and subcontractor requirements
  • Deliver monthly reporting packages including P&L, cash flow, balance sheet, and WIP
  • Lead job cost review meetings with project and operations teams
  • Drive an efficient 5-7 day month-end close process

A leading heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Construction Controller to oversee all financial operations and serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership. This is a high-impact role for a hands-on leader with deep expertise in job costing, WIP reporting, and construction financial management within a self-perform environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Strategy
    • Lead and develop the accounting and finance team, driving performance and accountability

  • Financial Oversight
    • Own financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes
    • Manage cash flow, including rolling 13-week forecasts tied to project billing cycles
    • Oversee cost-to-complete projections, WIP schedules, and margin analysis
    • Identify risks early, including billing discrepancies, margin fade, and cost overruns
  • Job Costing & Operational Alignment
    • Oversee job cost accounting across all active projects, tracking performance vs. estimate
    • Partner with Operations to ensure accurate cost coding for labor, equipment, and materials
    • Drive accountability across project teams for financial accuracy and reporting
  • Systems & Process Improvement
    • Serve as system owner for Vista by Viewpoint, including configuration and reporting
    • Lead integration with project management platforms (e.g., InEight)
    • Optimize workflows across accounting, finance, and project operations

    • Ability to communicate financial insight to both executive leadership and field teams
  • Preferred:
  • CPA, CMA, or CCIFP
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Compensation & Benefits

  • $150,000 - $170,000 base salary (based on experience)
