Job summary

North Shore Contractors is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to serve as on-site leadership for Bemidji, MN or Twin Cities projects. You will coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and in-house labor to maintain project flow, enforce safety, and ensure quality while supporting the lead Superintendent.

The role requires 3+ years in construction, OSHA 30 certification, and strong proficiency with Procore and scheduling tools.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of commercial/multifamily construction field experience (carpentry, labor, or lead foreman background a plus).
  • OSHA 30-Hour certification (current); strong knowledge of OSHA and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Outlook/Teams, Excel, Word, and other project management tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand architectural drawings, specifications, and technical standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and customer service abilities.
  • Highly organized self-starter with multitasking, problem-solving, and time management skills; flexible when needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable background check per company policy.
  • Able to work outside in various weather conditions and meet physical demands of the position.
  • Knowledgeable in creating and maintaining schedules efficiently.
  • Experience overseeing diverse marketplace and complex projects (wood, steel, etc.) over $20M.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule & Coordination: prepare and maintain look-ahead schedules, coordinate subcontractor pre-installs and deliveries.
  • Safety Leadership: monitor safety program, conduct daily safety orientations, document violations, act as safety liaison.
  • Quality Assurance / Quality Control: document first installs, perform QC verifications, manage Procore Observations and punchlists.
  • Communication & Documentation: attend meetings, draft RFIs in Procore, maintain daily logs and plan updates.
  • Jobsite Standards & Culture: lead jobsite cleanliness, direct in-house labor, monitor progress and quality.

ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT (LOCATION: BEMIDJI, MN or TWIN CITIES)

Position Overview The Assistant Project Superintendent is the key support to the Project Superintendent, acting as an on-site leader to ensure a safe, productive, and high-quality jobsite. This role focuses on coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and in-house labor to maintain project flow, implement quality control programs, and adhere to plans, specifications, and local codes. The Assistant Superintendent serves as an additional set of eyes, ears, and voice for the lead Superintendent, promoting cleanliness, safety, and efficiency while developing skills for future leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule & Coordination
    • Assist in preparing and maintaining look-ahead schedules, relaying key dates to trade partners.
    • Coordinate subcontractor pre-installs, material logistics, deliveries, and hoisting to avoid bottlenecks and ensure continuous workflow.
    • Confirm zone handoffs are on track, clearly communicated, and left clean for subsequent trades.
    • Work with the project team on the Procurement Log to ensure timely deliveries.
    • Plan and implement fan/air flow distribution during gypcrete operations for efficient curing.
    • Coordinate and track dumpster usage for continuous scrap removal.
  • Safety Leadership
    • Monitor and enforce a comprehensive safety program, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and NSC standards.
    • Conduct daily safety orientations for all crew members, setting clear expectations and procedures.
    • Perform daily safety checks; correct, document, and follow up on violations to prevent future issues.
    • Act as the safety liaison between the Superintendent and trades.
    • Document air monitoring during temporary heat operations.
    • Relay and address SWPPP inspection reports; conduct and distribute reports if no third-party is involved.
  • Quality Assurance / Quality Control
    • Document all first installs from pre-installation meetings; collaborate with crew leads to resolve discrepancies promptly.
    • Perform QC verifications, including rebar placement, blocking, rough-in checks, electrical box locations, and scheduling inspections for smooth schedule flow.
    • Enter and follow up on Procore Observations for work-to-complete, safety hazards, deficient work, and jobsite conditions.
    • Lead the project punchlist process, including work-to-complete lists, NSC pre-punch, and owner punchlists; tag items daily and ensure timely completion to meet quality expectations.
    • Log, track, and close out Architect/Engineer Field/Observation Reports in a timely manner.
    • Walk with third-party and building inspectors to address issues immediately; document and follow up with crew leads.
  • Communication & Documentation
    • Attend weekly tactical meetings and pre-installs; take detailed notes for clear post-meeting communication.
    • Work with crew leads to draft and submit RFIs in Procore; relay field conditions and collaborate with the design team for solutions.
    • Assist with daily log documentation and maintain an up-to-date paper plan set in the trailer (coordinate ASI and plan updates).
    • Hang and color-code door tags during rough-ins; mark off NSC portions.
    • Ensure all communications are positive, constructive, and aligned with the Superintendent.
  • Jobsite Standards & Culture
    • Lead and promote jobsite cleanliness; enforce daily cleanup with all crew leads to maintain an orderly, productive site.
    • Direct in-house labor onsite and monitor construction progress to uphold high-quality standards.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall project success.
