Job summary

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation is seeking an Entry-level Construction and Maintenance Technician I to support safe operation, installation, and maintenance of gas infrastructure in Beaver Run, MD. The role involves outdoor fieldwork, equipment operation, and adherence to safety protocols.

You will perform basic maintenance, assist with pipeline tasks, and participate in on-call rotations, gaining hands-on experience with field assets and company facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Entry-level mechanical/industrial experience (trade school or tools) beneficial.
• Strong safety focus and ability to wear PPE.

Responsibilities

• Assists with operation and maintenance of gas pipelines and facilities.
• Maintains company equipment, facilities, and grounds.
• Performs pipeline maintenance (leaks, cathodic protection, rights of way, valve maintenance).
• Operates equipment with guidance and maintains records.
• Conducts equipment inspections (pre/post trip).
• Keeps company truck stocked and organized.
• Performs light maintenance on facilities/equipment.
• Assists with peak shaving processes as needed.

Construction and Maintenance Technician I

Location: Beaver Run, MD

Your role in our success:

The Construction and Maintenance Technician I is responsible for the safe operation, installation, and maintenance of company system infrastructure and facilities, as well as emergency response within the service territory.

What you'll be doing:

• Assists with operation and maintenance of gas pipelines and facilities
• Maintains company equipment, facilities, and grounds (operations centers, M&R, City Gate, compressor stations, etc.)
• Performs pipeline maintenance (leak repairs, cathodic protection, clearing rights of way, valve maintenance)
• Operates equipment (backhoes, excavators, trenchers) with guidance and maintains daily records
• Conducts equipment inspections (including pre/post trip)
• Keeps company truck stocked and organized
• Performs light maintenance on facilities/equipment
• Assists with peak shaving processes as needed

Where you'll be working:

• Primarily outdoor/field work
• Weekend and on-call rotation required
• Exposure to noise, weather, gas, electricity

Who you are:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience: Entry-level mechanical/industrial (trade school or tools experience)
• License: Valid driver’s license + ability to obtain CDL within 18 months
• Strong focus on safety
• General knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems and heavy equipment
• Basic computer skills (MS Office) and communication skills
• Ability to wear PPE (respirator, fall protection, etc.)
