Chesapeake Utilities Corporation in Orrville/Athens, OH is seeking a Construction and Maintenance Technician I to support safe operation, installation, and upkeep of gas pipelines and facilities. You will assist with field operations, perform equipment maintenance, and contribute to peak shaving efforts.

The role emphasizes safety, basic mechanical knowledge, and the ability to obtain a CDL within 18 months. Weekend/on-call shifts are common, with extensive outdoor work and PPE requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Entry-level mechanical/industrial experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain CDL within 18 months.
• Strong focus on safety.
• General knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems and heavy equipment.
• Basic computer skills (MS Office) and communication skills.
• Ability to wear PPE (respirator, fall protection, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Assist with operation and maintenance of gas pipelines and facilities.
• Maintain equipment, facilities, and grounds at operations centers and sites.
• Perform pipeline maintenance such as leak repairs and valve maintenance.
• Operate backhoes, excavators, trenchers and keep daily records.
• Conduct equipment inspections (pre/post trip).
• Keep company truck stocked and organized.
• Perform light maintenance on facilities and equipment.
• Assist with peak shaving processes as needed.

Construction and Maintenance Technician I

Location: Orrville/Athens, OH

Your role in our success:

The Construction and Maintenance Technician I is responsible for the safe operation, installation, and maintenance of company system infrastructure and facilities, as well as emergency response within the service territory.

What you'll be doing:

• Assists with operation and maintenance of gas pipelines and facilities
• Maintains company equipment, facilities, and grounds (operations centers, M&R, City Gate, compressor stations, etc.)
• Performs pipeline maintenance (leak repairs, cathodic protection, clearing rights of way, valve maintenance)
• Operates equipment (backhoes, excavators, trenchers) with guidance and maintains daily records
• Conducts equipment inspections (including pre/post trip)
• Keeps company truck stocked and organized
• Performs light maintenance on facilities/equipment
• Assists with peak shaving processes as needed

Where you'll be working:

• Weekend and on-call rotation required
• Exposure to noise, weather, gas, electricity

Who you are:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
