Job summary

City of Lubbock is seeking a Supervisor to lead a crew in public works maintenance and construction. You will supervise laborers and skilled workers, instruct on repair methods, and ensure safe procedures while transporting crew and materials to job sites.

Qualifications

• Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional three to five years of experience in public works construction and maintenance, including one year of experience as crew leader; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the required capabilities.
• Valid current Commercial Driver's License; Texas CDL-specific requirements may apply.
• Possession of or ability to obtain required water/wastewater licenses within 12 months as applicable.

Responsibilities

Job description

• Transport crew members, tools, and materials to job locations;

• Assist the supervisor in planning work and make work assignments;
• Ensure that machines and equipment are available and in proper operating condition;
• Write daily reports and keep time cards;
• Perform related duties as directed.

Physical exam required

Valid current Commercial Driver's License
Water: *** Critical Infrastructure: This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components. This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening. ***
Water (Pipeline Maintenance) -
Possession of a Texas Class "A" Commercial Drivers license upon hire. Possession of, or ability to obtain within twelve months at least a Class "D" water distribution license with the ability to obtain a Class "C" water distribution license with three years.
Streets - Possession of a Texas Class "A" Commercial Drivers license. Prefer experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
Wastewater/Waste- Possession of a Texas Class "B" Drivers license.Class C Waste Water License or a Waste Water Collection II License or able to obtain within 12 months.

Knowledge of:

• The materials, methods, and equipment used in public works maintenance; hazards and safety precautions at work.

Ability to:

• Plan, supervise, and assign work of a large number of employees;
• Determine the effectiveness of and need for public works maintenance;
• Make time and material estimates;
• Establish and maintain effective working and public relationships;
• Interpret plan specifications;
• Communicate effectively with others;
• Possess certification if required by the Texas Natural Resources Conservation Commission.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
• Occasionally stand and walk during the shift.
• Frequently bend and kneel during the shift.
• Frequently push and pull objects.Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
• Occasionally move body in a crawling motion.
• Rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing.
• Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height.
• Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
