Job summary

UTHealth Houston is seeking an Assistant Director of Constituent Experience to design high-impact donor experiences that connect donors, prospects, volunteers, and external audiences to the university’s mission. The role partners with frontline fundraisers, faculty, and leadership to develop scalable experiences aligned with donor lifecycle and campaign priorities.

The position is largely remote with occasional in-person meetings.

Qualifications

• 6 years of progressively responsible experience in development, donor relations, constituent engagement, alumni relations, event strategy, or a related field.
• Experience in higher education, academic medicine, healthcare, or other mission-driven nonprofit organizations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Partners closely with frontline fundraisers to design and execute personalized, high-impact donor experiences that support cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship goals.
• Develops a scalable menu of engagement experiences mapped to the donor lifecycle and adaptable for use with prospects, donors, and volunteer leaders.
• Serves as the primary liaison between Development and faculty for constituent-facing engagement experiences and shapes narratives.
• Identifies opportunities where donor interests intersect with faculty initiatives to create meaningful engagement experiences.
• Tracks, analyzes, and reports outcomes of donor and volunteer engagement experiences.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Constituent Experience designs and executes high-impact experiences that connect donors, prospects, volunteers, and external audiences to UTHealth Houston's academic mission, faculty, and priorities. Working in close partnership with frontline fundraisers, faculty, and academic leadership, this role serves as a subject-matter expert in experiential engagement and develops personalized experiences that strengthen donor relationships and advance philanthropic goals. This position develops and maintains a scalable framework of constituent experiences aligned with the donor lifecycle and campaign priorities, ensuring interactions are intentional, mission-driven, and consistently executed. This Assistant Director coordinates complex engagement activities, allowing frontline fundraisers to focus on relationship strategy, cultivation, and solicitation.

This role is largely remote, but will come in for meetings with front-line fundraisers, faculty, and donors as needed. So, in essence, it is a hybrid schedule. You should have experience in stewardship and development, and be a good project manager who can plan and execute these events.

Position Key Accountabilities:

• Partners closely with frontline fundraisers to design and execute personalized, high-impact donor and prospect experiences that support cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship goals. Develop engagement opportunities such as on-campus tours, lab visits, classroom or simulation experiences, and faculty briefings. Serves as a strategic thought partner to fundraisers on how experiential engagement can advance donor relationships and philanthropic outcomes.
• Develops and maintains a scalable menu of engagement experiences mapped to the donor lifecycle and adaptable for use with prospects, donors, and volunteer leaders. Ensures experiences are intentional, mission-driven, and aligned with institutional priorities, campaign objectives, and philanthropic strategies.
• Serves as the primary liaison between Development and faculty for constituent-facing engagement experiences. Consults with faculty and academic leaders to shape experiences that translate complex academic or scientific work into compelling, constituent-centered narratives. Provides constructive feedback to ensure consistency, quality, and impact across experiences.
• Identifies and cultivates opportunities where donor interests, volunteer passions, and faculty initiatives intersect, creating meaningful engagement experiences that inspire deeper involvement, greater advocacy, and philanthropic commitment.
• Prepares faculty and leadership for interactions with donors and volunteers by providing context on interests, experience objectives, and desired outcomes.
• Tracks, analyzes, and reports outcomes of donor, prospect, and volunteer engagement experiences, including prospect generation, pipeline progression, stewardship impact, and volunteer engagement outcomes.
• Navigates complex faculty schedules and competing priorities to deliver seamless, high-quality experiences.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business, nonprofit management, hospitality management, or a related field required. You may substitute required education with four (4) equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement in fundraising and events.

Minimum Experience:

6 years of progressively responsible experience in development, donor relations, constituent engagement, alumni relations, event strategy, or a related field required. Experience in higher education, academic medicine, healthcare, or other mission-driven nonprofit organizations preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code 117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether things such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.
