Job summary

The Boston College Libraries are seeking a full-time Conservation & Preservation Specialist to support six campus libraries within a libraries-wide Preservation program. The Specialist handles conservation treatments and constructs enclosures for general and special collections while aiding preventive preservation, disaster planning, and training.

Reporting to the Conservation and Preservation Manager, the role includes hiring and supervising part-time student assistants and interns.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to perform basic conservation treatments and hand skills.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; experience in conservation or book binding desirable.
• Strong time and project management, independent judgment and documentation skills.
• Able to lift boxes up to 30 lbs with careful handling.

Responsibilities

• Perform conservation treatments and construct enclosures for general and special collections.
• Support preventive preservation, disaster planning and response, and training.
• Consult across library departments and assist with policy development.
• Hire and supervise part-time student assistants and/or interns.
