Job summary

The National Audubon Society is seeking a Coordinator, Grounds & Maintenance at the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove in Audubon, PA. You will oversee grounds, facilities and fleet maintenance to ensure safe, welcoming spaces for visitors and programs.

Reporting to the Center Operations Manager, you will supervise routine upkeep, manage a work order system, coordinate with staff and volunteers, and respond to emergencies, with weekend/evening shifts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, vocational school certificate or equivalent a plus.
  • At least three years of experience in land management.
  • Basic knowledge of habitat management and bird and plant identification.
  • Ability to maintain, operate and maintain hand and gasoline-operated tools.
  • Experience with basic trades including plumbing, carpentry and electrical.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with other staff and interact positively with visitors to the Center and others in the community.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to personal transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain grounds, buildings, equipment, boats, and vehicles.
  • Maintain property signage along interior boundaries.
  • Create clean, safe and pleasant environment for visitors and event guests through proper and proactive maintenance of the grounds, vehicles and equipment.
  • Operate and oversee top working order of equipment required to maintain grass, meadows, forests and trails. In addition, plow snow, treat surfaces for ice, trim trees and perform routine maintenance of equipment and/or arrange for necessary professional services.
  • Maintain grounds and native habitats for the benefit of birds and people; recommend practices and projects to create optimal habitats.
  • Co-create and coordinate with the Visitor Experience Manager and Center Director a work order system to prioritize needs and plan for appropriate budgeting and staffing; maintain inventory and maintenance records for equipment and vehicles
  • Be available to respond to emergency issues.
  • Prepare for storms to protect property assets and conduct cleanup/repairs following storm impact.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Audubon's conservation prioritiesand help plan conservation demonstration projects at the Center.
  • Participate in Audubon and Audubon Mid-Atlantic all-staff calls and staff working groups,
  • Proactively suggest solutions to operating challenges.
  • Other job-related duties, including manual labor tasks, as required.
  • Work schedule will include some weekends or evenings.
  • Support a culture of philanthropy, including public funding efforts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Americas including through joint planning and execution of shared priorities.
