Job summary

Old Colony YMCA in Whitman, MA is seeking an energetic Assistant Group Leader to help run after-school activities, lead games, assist with homework, and ensure a safe, inclusive environment for children.

You will work with Group Leaders and the Site Coordinator, bringing energy and creativity to daily activities, and upholding YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
• Evidence of physical examination within the last 12 months.
• Negative Mantoux TB test and immunity for measles, mumps, and rubella.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs occasionally and 40 lbs frequently.
• Able to work early morning and afternoon/evening shifts (Mon–Fri).
• Strong oral communication skills for occasional public speaking responsibilities.
• Understand Y-USA’s focus areas and meet the health-seeker needs.

Responsibilities

• Understand and ensure EEC regulations as well as Old Colony Y policies are maintained at all times.
• Assist with implementing the program curriculum in accordance with EEC regulations and Old Colony YMCA policies.
• Assist with daily activities, including Y Chat, Asset Curriculum, BOKS, Fun/Food Curriculum.
• Maintain proper behavior of children with strict adherence to YMCA policies.
• Assist with Fun/Food Curriculum, menu planning and HEPA guidelines.
• Understands and maintains QRIS standards.
• Attend site staff meetings and monthly school age meetings.
• Meet with the School Age Site Coordinator as directed.
• Establish and maintain working relationships with school or site personnel.

Are you energetic, creative, and love making kids smile? Then we want YOU on our team! As an Assistant Group Leader , you’re more than an extra set of hands- you’ll be right in the middle of the action—helping create fun, exciting, and memorable experiences that kids will talk about all year long!

Monday through Friday 7AM-the start of school and/or 2PM-6PM

You’ll work alongside our Group Leaders and School Age Site Coordinator to keep the day running smoothly while jumping into the fun yourself. Whether you’re leading a game, helping with an awesome activity, coaching a child through their homework, cheering a child on outside, or just being the person who makes a students day a little brighter—you’ll make a difference!

• Jump into the fun! Participate in games, sports, crafts, challenges, theme days, and all kinds of activities.
• Be a role model, cheerleader, teammate, and friend to the children in your care.
• Help kids try new things, make friends, build confidence, and have a blast!

Requirements

Education, Experience & Physical Requirements

• Minimum of 16 years of age
• Have a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Have a High School diploma or equivalent.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required - will provide training if needed
• Evidence of physical examination within the last 12 months.
• Negative Mantoux TB test and immunity for measles, mumps, and rubella.
• Ability to create and sustain a culture of excellence and work and thrive as part of a cohesive team.
• Ability to lift/move heavy equipment and clean when necessary.
• Will sometimes work early morning, Afternoon/Evening shifts.( Monday through Fridays)
• Strong oral communication skills required for occasional public speaking responsibilities.
• Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift up to 75lbs on occasion and 40lbs frequently.
• Ability to thoroughly understand Y-USA’s three focus areas: Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility; proven ability to identify and meet the needs of the health seeker

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITY:

• Understand and ensure EEC regulations as well as Old Colony Y policies (Child and Youth Care policy, Child Guidance Policy, Health Care Policy) are maintained at all times.
• Assist with implementing the program curriculum in accordance with EEC regulations and Old Colony YMCA’S policies.
• Assist with daily activities, including but not limited to; Y Chat, Asset Curriculum, BOKS, Fun/Food Curriculum.
• Maintain proper behavior of children at all times with strict adherence to both the YMCA Child Guidance Policy, and the Child Care Policy.
• Assists with Fun/Food Curriculum, menu planning and guidelines meet HEPA standards
• Understands and maintains QRIS standards
• Act in a public relations capacity when communicating with parents, school personnel and potential clients in person and online.
• Act as a positive role model.
• Maintain attendance records and all necessary reports
• Attend both site staff meetings and monthly school age meetings.
• Meet with the School Age Site Coordinator as directed.
• Establish and maintain working relationships with school or other site-specific personnel.

Pay Range

The estimated pay range for this job. Disclosing pay information promotes competitive and equitable pay.
The actual pay rate will depend on the person’s qualifications and experience. $15.50 - $17.82 / hour
