Job summary

The Home for Little Wanderers' Waltham House is seeking Per Diem Residential Counselors to support LGBTQ youth ages 14-18 in a safe, structured home environment. The role emphasizes trauma-informed care, skill-building, and positive youth development within a group home setting.

You will participate in on-site and off-site activities, implement de-escalation techniques, and help youth gain life and coping skills while receiving comprehensive training and supervision.

Qualifications

• 1 year or more prior experience working with youth preferred
• High school diploma or GED required

The Home for Little Wanderers, Waltham House is looking for Per Diem Residential Counselors to make a difference in the lives of youth who have experienced trauma and/or who have significant emotional and behavioral challenges. Join a dynamic team of professionals implementing our trauma informed care model.

The Home for Little Wanderers' Waltham House is a group home program designed to provide a safe and supportive living environment for up to 12 LGBTQ youth ages 14-18. The Home offers extensive training and support to all new staff and many opportunities for career and professional development.

How You Will Be Making a Difference

• Support youth in developing the skills they need to successfully transition home to families.
• Teach age-appropriate life skills, coping skills, and social skills through modeling, counseling, and other techniques.
• Participate in groups and activities designed to enhance youth growth and development.
• Participate in both on-site and off-site recreational/educational activities.
• Maintain a safe and supportive environment.

What To Expect In The Role

• Passing the CORI/background check and having a valid ID
• Being physically active for an 8-10 hour shift
• Participating in verbal de-escalation and physical intervention with youth
• Multi-tasking in a changing and fast-paced treatment environment
• Receiving and implement feedback in the moment and through a structured supervision process
• Ability to work evenings, holidays, weekend shifts as required
