Job summary

Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP seeks a conflicts and professional responsibility specialist to analyze complex high-risk conflicts for new clients and matters across its global platform. You will advise lawyers, draft waivers and consent requests, and help implement ethical screening and risk-mitigation measures.

You will serve as a primary escalation resource, collaborate with the Professional Responsibility Department, and provide training to the Conflicts and New Business Intake

  • Aptitude for learning new technologies relevant to conflicts and intake systems.
  • Willingness to provide after-hours conflicts support on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex, high-risk conflicts arising from proposed new client engagements, mobility, and strategic initiatives, and recommend resolutions.
  • Advise on implementations of ethical screens and risk-mitigation measures; review client-imposed requirements and outside counsel guidelines.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate conflict waivers, engagement letters, consent requests, and related documents.
  • Serve as escalation resource for complex conflicts and intake matters, providing legal analysis and sound judgment.
  • Partner with the Professional Responsibility Department and firm leadership on risk and ethics initiatives, policy development, and process improvements.
  • Provide training and mentoring to Conflicts and New Business Intake teams and maintain subject matter expertise.
  • Support after-hours conflicts and new business intake on a rotating basis.

Overview

  • The role supports the Firm’s risk management and professional responsibility functions by analyzing complex conflicts of interest issues, advising lawyers, and facilitating the clearance of new clients and matters across its global platform.
  • Responsibilities include analyzing complex, high-risk, and novel conflicts arising from proposed new client engagements, matters, attorney mobility, and strategic business initiatives, then recommending appropriate resolution strategies.
  • Evaluates proposed representations involving concurrent, former client, positional, issue, and business conflicts, as well as other matters presenting heightened legal, ethical, or reputational risk.
  • Drafts, reviews, and negotiates conflict waivers, engagement letter provisions, consent requests, and other conflicts-related documentation.
  • Advises on the implementation of ethical screens and risk mitigation measures, and reviews/advises on conflicts-related provisions in outside counsel guidelines and client-imposed requirements.
  • Serves as a primary escalation resource for complex conflicts and intake matters, providing legal analysis, guidance, and exercising sound legal and business judgment.
  • Partners with the Professional Responsibility Department and Firm leadership to identify and address conflicts, ethics, and risk management issues, and participates in departmental initiatives, policy development, process improvements, and technology enhancements.
  • Provides training, mentoring, and guidance to members of the Conflicts and New Business Intake team, while developing and maintaining subject matter expertise on conflicts, professional responsibility, and emerging legal developments affecting law firm risk management.
  • Requires after-hours conflicts and new business intake support on a rotating basis.
  • Candidates must have demonstrated knowledge of conflicts of interest principles and applicable rules of professional responsibility, alongside a strong aptitude for learning new technologies relevant to conflicts and intake systems.
