Job summary

ABA Search, Inc. seeks a Conflicts Analyst to own the conflicts clearance process in a hybrid role across Boston, Chicago, New York, or Washington, DC. You’ll manage database searches, waivers, engagement letters, and ethical screens to ensure compliant new engagements and hires.

You will analyze high-volume requests, prepare reports, and communicate findings to partners and attorneys. The role offers overtime eligibility and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of direct conflicts experience in law firm or legal environment.
• Proficiency in Intapp Open and Contract Express.
• Knowledge of ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and California Rules of Professional Conduct.
• Experience performing legal and corporate research.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ability to learn iManage.
• Availability to work overtime, including weekends.

What You'll Do

As part of the conflicts and new business intake team, you'll help the firm confirm that every new engagement and hire is clear from both a business and an ethical perspective. You will:

• Analyze and process conflicts requests for new business and new hires, including high-volume and bulk searches
• Prepare database search terms, create conflicts reports, and interpret results for partners, attorneys, and business professionals
• Conduct corporate research to confirm the identity of related parties and address potential conflicts or high-profile issues
• Prepare concise, comprehensive descriptions of the conflicts landscape under the applicable rules of professional conduct
• Work directly with partners by email and phone to investigate potential issues, propose solutions, and provide regular status updates
• Request waivers for matters requiring consent, confirm that all conflicts are resolved, and maintain resolution notes for each request
• Draft conflict waivers, engagement letters, and ethical screens as needed
• Perform conflicts case law and legal ethics research while staying current on legal trends
• Provide conflicts training to assistants and other business professionals as needed

What You'll Bring

Required:

• 2+ years of direct applicable experience, which could include experience within a law firm, legal environment, or conflicts department
• Proficiency in Intapp Open and Contract Express or similar programs
• Knowledge of the American Bar Association's Model Rules of Professional Conduct and the California Rules of Professional Conduct
• Overall understanding of a corporate law practice
• Experience conducting legal and corporate research
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn iManage and other firm technology
• Availability to work overtime, including weekends, as required
• Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills, with sound judgment and the ability to work independently and prioritize time-sensitive matters

Especially Helpful:

• A bachelor's degree or JD is preferred, and knowledge of and experience with complete conflicts resolution is strongly preferred.
• A paralegal certificate (or completion of an ethics course in a paralegal program) and prior experience as a paralegal or legal researcher in a law firm are also valued.
