Responsibilities

  • Analyze manufacturing drawings, specs, and TDPs to assess production impact of changes.
  • Prepare, process, and track ECOs from initiation through release.
  • Update BOMs, including structure, part numbers, revisions, and effectivity.
  • Enter changes into the ERP/MRP system and verify accuracy.
  • Maintain configuration baselines and change history with traceability.
  • Review part specs and supporting docs for accuracy and compliance.
  • Train users on ECO workflows and CM processes.
  • Coordinate with program management, procurement, engineering, and manufacturing to communicate status.
  • Prepare reports on change and configuration processes and provide recommendations.
  • Provide additional documentation support as requested.

Job Summary

The Configuration Management Specialist owns the accuracy and integrity of product configuration data across engineering and manufacturing. This role analyzes engineering changes for production impact, prepares and processes Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), maintains bills of material (BOMs) and technical documentation in the ERP/MRP system, and serves as the connection point between engineering, program management, procurement/planning, and manufacturing on all configuration matters. Accuracy, traceability, and clear communication drive success in this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Analyze manufacturing drawings, specifications, and technical data packages (TDPs) to assess the production impact of proposed engineering changes.
  • Prepare, process, and track Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) from initiation through release.
  • Implement approved changes to bills of material (BOMs), including structure, part numbers, revisions, and effectivity.
  • Enter configuration changes into the ERP/MRP system and verify entries against released documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain configuration baselines and change history, preserving traceability from customer TDP through as-built configuration.
  • Review part specifications and supporting documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company and customer requirements.
  • Train and support other users on ECO workflows, documentation systems, and configuration management processes.
  • Coordinate with program management, procurement/planning, engineering, and manufacturing to communicate change status, resolve discrepancies, and confirm downstream impacts.
  • Prepare and distribute reports associated with the change and configuration process; ensure reporting accuracy and provide insight and recommendations on process effectiveness.
  • Provide additional documentation support as requested.
Other Functions and Responsibilities
  • Participate in and lead continuous improvement projects related to configuration management, documentation, and change control.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), 22 CFR 120.62 - a U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, or a person granted asylee or refugee status. This position requires access to export-controlled technical data, and employment is contingent on meeting this requirement.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in configuration management, document control, or a closely related role.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and change documentation.
  • Working knowledge of BOM structure and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, program management, procurement/planning, and manufacturing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the defense industry with BOMs, technical data packages (TDPs), and change documentation.
  • Familiarity with data packages covering circuit card assemblies, electromechanical assemblies, and cable and harness information.
  • Strong understanding of ERP system functionality beyond basic transaction entry.
  • Intermediate to advanced user of MS Office products.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Extended periods of sitting at a computer and keyboarding.
  • Frequent walking; occasional standing.
  • Occasional lifting and carry of up to 20 lbs.
  • Work is performed in an office and manufacturing environment; personal protective equipment may be required in production areas.
