It serves as an independent, nonpartisan watchdog for New York City government, agencies, employees, vendors with City contracts, and recipients of City funds.

Position Overview

We are seeking to hire 10 entry-level Investigators passionate about making a difference by uncovering fraud and corruption. This role involves confidential investigations into the operations, methods, programs, accounts, personnel, and overall efficiency of City agencies, employees, vendors, and recipients of City funds. No prior investigative experience is necessary, making this an excellent opportunity for those starting a career in law enforcement. Ideal candidates are inquisitive, resourceful, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, capable of working independently and in teams.

Training and Certification

Upon hire, you will be enrolled in the Investigative Officer Training Academy (IOTA), a 10-week program designed to meet NYS Basic Peace Officer training standards. Topics include defensive tactics, crisis intervention, surveillance, interviewing, report writing, and relevant laws. Successful completion may lead to certification as a New York State Peace Officer. Current NYS certified Peace Officers are encouraged to apply.

Post-Training Placement

After training, you will join a squad to conduct investigations. Additional training and background checks are required for certification as a NYS Peace Officer, including passing the DOI Physical Agility Test and other tactical and firearm qualification courses.

Application Process

Interested candidates must undergo fingerprinting and a background check, including a review of consumer credit history as permitted by NYC law. Applications are to be submitted via https://a127-jobs.nyc.gov with Job ID #711548. Do not email, mail, or fax resumes. Only selected candidates will be contacted.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent and four years of full-time experience in investigation, law enforcement, security, inspections, or related fields; or
