Job summary

Sterling Construction Company, Inc. in El Paso, TX is seeking a Carpenter to construct and install forms for concrete structures, read blueprints, and work with rebar. The role requires physical labor and adherence to safety standards.

Responsibilities include assembling form panels, pouring concrete, erecting scaffolding, and coordinating with crew to complete projects on schedule. Local travel may be required; overtime and weekend availability expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of rough, concrete or bridge carpentry experience.
• Experience pouring concrete and reading blueprints.
• Must be able to lift 70 lbs and work safely.

Position Description

Carpenter responsibilities and abilities include but are not limited to the list below. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Construct built-in-place or prefabricated wooden and/or metal forms, according to specifications, for molding concrete structures such as: piers, footers, retaining walls, abutments, parapets, caps, columns and bridge decks
2. Proficiently saw lumber per blueprint dimensions, using handsaw or power saw, and nail lumber together to make form panels.
3. Perform work with some supervision
4. Pour and screed concrete to grade and straight edged
5. Treat equipment with care and keep tools clean
6. Proficiently erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level
7. Hang ledgers, overhang brackets and decking with either plywood or steel forms
8. Tying rebar
9. Proficiently form slabs, columns and walls for concrete pours
10. Ability to form and pour minor projects with little instruction.
11. Layout footings, walls, boxes, dowels, etc.
12. Lift and handle built-in-place forms and/or assembles, erects and installs prefabricated forms.
13. Insert spreaders and tie rods between opposite faces of form to maintain specified dimensions.
14. Anchor and brace forms to fixed objects, using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, and planks.
15. Proficiently build rough wooden structures such as: scaffolds, temporary frame shelters, overhang jacks and safety railings.
16. Lift and set rails for finishing machine.
17. Pour concrete in forms and decks which requires vibrating, shoveling and raking. Also assists cement finishers.
18. Demonstrate good Knowledge and ability to use the following forming systems
