Job summary

Sterling Construction Company, Inc. in El Paso, TX is seeking a skilled Carpenter with experience in rough, concrete and bridge carpentry. The role requires forming and pouring concrete, assembling formwork, and working with various forming systems.

Responsibilities include building and erecting forms, sawing lumber to spec, and assisting cement finishers. Candidates should be able to lift 70 lbs, work overtime, and have reliable transportation to job sites.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in rough, concrete, or bridge carpentry and pouring concrete or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Transportation to work.
  • Be able to carry 70 lbs. or more.
  • Willing to do laborer work.
  • Flexible availability to include overtime and possible weekends.

  • Saw lumber per blueprint dimensions and nail panels.

  • Erect scaffolding and ladders for accessing structures above ground level.
  • Form slabs, columns and walls for concrete pours.

Position Description

Carpenter responsibilities and abilities include but are not limited to the list below. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Construct built-in-place or prefabricated wooden and/or metal forms, according to specifications, for molding concrete structures such as: piers, footers, retaining walls, abutments, parapets, caps, columns and bridge decks
  2. Proficiently saw lumber per blueprint dimensions, using handsaw or power saw, and nail lumber together to make form panels.
  3. Perform work with some supervision
  4. Pour and screed concrete to grade and straight edged
  5. Treat equipment with care and keep tools clean
  6. Proficiently erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level
  7. Hang ledgers, overhang brackets and decking with either plywood or steel forms
  8. Tying rebar
  9. Proficiently form slabs, columns and walls for concrete pours
  10. Ability to form and pour minor projects with little instruction.
  11. Layout footings, walls, boxes, dowels, etc.
  12. Lift and handle built-in-place forms and/or assembles, erects and installs prefabricated forms.
  13. Insert spreaders and tie rods between opposite faces of form to maintain specified dimensions.
  14. Anchor and brace forms to fixed objects, using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, and planks.
  15. Proficiently build rough wooden structures such as: scaffolds, temporary frame shelters, overhang jacks and safety railings.
  16. Lift and set rails for finishing machine.
  17. Pour concrete in forms and decks which requires vibrating, shoveling and raking. Also assists cement finishers.
  18. Demonstrate good Knowledge and ability to use the following forming systems
  19. Aluminum Gang Forms
  20. Simons
  21. EFCO
  22. Stick Frame Wood Forms
