Job summary

The Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA is seeking a Curator to lead research, acquisition, and interpretation of the history of computing. This full-time, hybrid role combines collecting, exhibition development, oral history, and public engagement to illuminate how technology has shaped society.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in history of computing, significant museum or archival experience, and a proven ability to create engaging content for diverse audiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in History, Museum Studies, Science & Technology Studies, Information Studies, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible museum/archival experience.
  • Experience developing exhibitions, digital content, public history initiatives, or interpretive programming.

Responsibilities

  • Research, document, and interpret the history of computing, focusing on the past 25 years and societal impact.
  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue acquisitions of artifacts, archives, software, born-digital materials, and corporate records.
  • Conduct oral history interviews with innovators and leaders in the field.
  • Develop exhibitions, digital content, publications, and educational resources for diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with exhibit developers, designers, educators, and digital teams to create engaging museum experiences.
  • Represent the Museum through presentations, VIP tours, media opportunities, and public programs.
  • Build relationships with technology companies, researchers, donors, and industry leaders to strengthen collections and public impact.
  • Monitor emerging technologies to guide future collecting priorities and curatorial strategy.
