The Manager of School Engagement will collaborate closely with the Volunteer Manager, Museum Services team, and the curatorial team on a goal to deliver high quality, curriculum-driven educational experiences for all school groups visiting CHM. In the first year, the primary focus of this role will be to rebuild the field trip program’s infrastructure, content, and strategy. Once the program is established, this role will manage program implementation, including coordinating all field trips, ensuring students receive high-quality learning experiences, and evaluating impact. The role will include supporting the integration of the field trip program into CHM’s long-term educational strategy as it is developed and implemented.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of the history of CHM’s field trip programming and benchmark best practices from other museums and informal learning institutions.
  • Design and implement a multi-year strategy for field trips that prioritizes both growth (breadth of impact) and quality (depth of impact).
  • Establish and refine goals for increasing the number of student participants, with specific goals for Title I schools.
  • Work with the Development team to devise fundraising proposals in support of the field trip program.
Operations & Administration
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all school visits. Work closely with the Group Reservations team to manage the field trip inquiry and booking process, including responding to school inquiries by email and phone, booking school reservations, coordinating schedules, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Collaborate with frontline staff to ensure smooth logistical execution of school visits and a welcoming environment for all school groups.
  • Track and report key data related to field trip participation, including attendance, school demographics, and evaluation results.
  • Define and implement educational goals aligned with CHM’s mission, theory of change, and learning framework.
  • Relying on CHM’s extensive library of existing materials, develop hands-on educational activities that deepen student learning and complement in-gallery experiences.
  • In collaboration with the Volunteer Manager, provide training, support, and feedback to volunteers that support field trip activities, including docents.
  • Develop and implement systems for evaluating and improving the educational impact of field trips.
  • Work with the marketing team to develop and implement outreach strategies to achieve goals.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders across Museum Services and Curatorial departments to ensure alignment.
  • Build relationships with local educators, schools, and community organizations to increase participation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 3 years of experience in museum education, K–12 education, or a related field, with an understanding of effective pedagogical approaches in informal learning experiences.
  • Experience developing and evaluating educational programs that are aligned with curriculum standards. Strong understanding of inclusive teaching and learning practices.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to balance long- and short-term goals with strategic problem-solving.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated comfort in interacting with volunteers and the public.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and ability to work across departments in pursuit of shared objectives.
  • Passion for the role of museums in public education and community engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with or in Title I schools.
  • Familiarity with the Bay Area educational ecosystem.
  • Background in STEM, history, or technology-related education.
