Job summary

BWXT Advanced Technologies in Lynchburg, VA is seeking a Computer Vision / Machine Learning R&D Engineer to apply vision and ML to manufacturing and space applications. This role focuses on building advanced ML models integrated with machine vision to improve quality and yield.

You will develop sensor-enabled systems, deploy model pipelines at scale, and collaborate with data analysts. Travel 30–40% domestically and internationally; US citizenship and ability to obtain DOE/DOD clearance required.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, computer science, data science, or a related field is required.
• A minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience is required.
• Must have experience in computer vision and machine learning, with a strong focus on deep generative models (e.g., GANs, VAEs, diffusion models).
• Must have experience in signal processing and apply signal processing techniques; be a self-starter supporting multiple teams.
• Travel (30-40%) domestic and international is required.
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE or DOD security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop physics-informed ML models integrated with vision classifiers to detect defects.
• Develop and improve sensor systems based on model performance.
• Collaborate with engineering to implement pipelines and deploy services at scale.
