Job summary

York School District One Technology Services Center in York, South Carolina is seeking a Computer Support Technician I to enhance classroom technology support. This role reports to the Director of Technology and focuses on improving end-user assistance in a school setting.

The position requires a high school diploma with additional college/technical experience, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma supplemented by at least one year of college, technical, or equivalent job experience.
  • Demonstrated field experience working with end-user technical support in a responsive, helpful, courteous, and tactful manner leading to timely and appropriate problem resolution or escalation.
  • Experience working in an educational environment preferred.
  • Wide range of computer hardware and software experience in a networked environment and a willingness to learn new and emerging technologies as they are introduced to the schools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with staff and students on a variety of technology tools, including productivity suites, learning applications, and web-based software.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organization skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to physically lift and carry technology equipment (approximately 40 pounds).

Responsibilities

  • Provide first-response technical support, including testing and troubleshooting workstations, laptops, printers, Interactive Boards, iPads, Chromebooks, audio systems, and other peripherals.
  • Help manage mobile devices and keep them ready for student use.
  • Install, test, and troubleshoot software applications, being conscious of software requirements, license restrictions, and end-user needs.
  • Work with other technology staff to maintain optimal network performance and security.
  • Participate in meetings as required, offering insight and direction to the use of technology as it relates to the district’s technology plan.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

COMPUTER SUPPORT TECHNICIAN I

Reports to: Director of Technology

Primary Role: To increase the level of support for technology in classrooms.

FLSA Status: Non-exempt Support
Contract Days: 240

Salary: Technology Salary Scale

Physical Requirements:

Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 25 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations.

Work Conditions:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 25% sitting, 37% walking, and 38% standing. The job is performed in a general hazard-free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
