Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Research, test, and recommend computer equipment and software for data center operations.
  • Provide management with hardware data processing expertise for facility modifications and site planning.
  • Coordinate high-level technical responses to operational issues to resolve user problems.
  • Coordinate production and solve operational and scheduling issues.
  • Diagnose and remedy complex problems involving systems, operations, and data telecom equipment or software.
  • Supervise staff operating consoles in a multi-mainframe or large mini-/microcomputer environment.
  • Establish uniform performance standards and efficient work methods.
  • Train and schedule senior computer operations personnel.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses to quantify recommendations to management.
  • Maintain data security and internal controls to protect assets and records.
  • Plan, assign, and review work of senior staff and ensure completion of work.
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, or enhancements of data processing equipment and software.
  • Conduct complex internal consultancy projects requiring deep knowledge of equipment, OS, and job control languages.

Education

Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of full-time computer operations experience, with 1 year in a project leader capacity or on a complex project
Associate degree plus 6 years of full-time computer operations experience, with 1 year in a project leader capacity or on a complex project
High school diploma or equivalent plus 8 years of full-time computer operations experience, with 1 year in a project leader capacity or on a complex project
Education equivalent to above with a four-year high school diploma and four years of relevant experience

Level 2: $ 113,637 - $ 127,300

Level 3: $ 122,715 - $ 138,441

Level 4: $ 131,642 - $ 158,514

DEPT/DIV: MTA IT

SUPERVISOR: Manager, Data Networks C

LOCATION: 2 Broadway, New York, NY 10004

HOURS OF WORK: 1st shift: 00:00 -- 08:00

2nd shift : 08 :00 -- 16:00

3rd shift: 16:00 -- 24:00

8-hour shifts with a 1-hour lunch, totaling 35 hours per week

Shift is subject to change.

This is a 24/7 operation.

Summary:

Under supervision, with considerable latitude for independent action or the exercise of independent judgment, is responsible for providing management with state-of-the-art technical assistance in all aspects of data processing operations. Provides supervision or senior staff support of computer operations in a large-scale, multi-programmed mainframe computer environment, or conducts similar duties within a large network of distributed minicomputer and microcomputer systems. All personnel perform related work.

Responsibilities:

  • Researches , tests, and recommends the purchase of computer equipment and associated requisite software products necessary to maintain or enhance the data center's operations environment.
  • Provides management with data processing hardware and technical expertise in the planning of modifications to the existing facility and identification of new or backup sites.
  • Coordinates high-level technical responses to difficult operational issues to resolve user-related issues and problems.
  • Coordinates production and solves operational and scheduling problems.
  • Provides diagnosis and remedies to complex problems involving systems, operations, and data telecommunications equipment and/or software.
  • Supervises staff who operate computer consoles in a multiple mainframe or large mini- and/or microcomputer environment.
  • Establishes and maintains uniform performance standards and efficient methods of work.
  • Trains, instructs , and schedules senior computer operations personnel.
  • Conducts cost-benefit and other analyses to quantify recommendations to management.
  • Maintains a data security and internal control environment adequate to protect agency assets and records.
  • Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of senior operations staff and assumes general r esponsibility for the satisfactory completion of work performed.
  • In a large data processing facility, supervises one or more groups or project teams engaged in the installation, maintenance, or enhancement of data processing equipment and software.
  • Conducts complex internal consultancy projects requiring an in-depth knowledge of computer equipment, operating systems, and job control languages.

Required Qualifications:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time computer operations experience, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
  • An associate degree from an accredited college and six years of satisfactory full-time computer operations experience, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and eight years of satisfactory full-time computer operations experience, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
  • Education and/or equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and the four years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1", "2", or "3" above.
