Position Description
Ohlone College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for temporary part‑time teaching assignments. Assignments may include day, evening, and weekend courses and may be in‑person, online, or hybrid.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach Computer Science courses in accordance with established course outlines.
- Evaluate student work using clear criteria relevant to course content and learning outcomes, and provide timely feedback.
- Maintain and submit accurate records (grades, syllabi, attendance reports) by published deadlines.
- Create an equity‑based and welcoming classroom environment.
- Perform duties as described in Board policy, the United Faculty of Ohlone contact, the Faculty Handbook, and as assigned across campus, Newark Center, or eCampus.
Subject Areas
- Object‑Oriented Programming Using C++, Java, JavaScript (ECMAScript), Python, Ruby, PHP, and other modern programming languages.
- Related web technologies such as cloud programming, CSS3, and HTML.
- Virtualization using VMWare, QEMU, VirtualBox, etc.
- Introduction to database concepts; MySQL software.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering;
- OR Bachelor’s in either field and a Master’s in Mathematics, Cybernetics, Business Administration, Accounting, or Engineering;
- OR Bachelor’s in Engineering and a Master’s in Cybernetics, Engineering, Mathematics, or Business Administration;
- OR Bachelor’s in Mathematics and a Master’s in Cybernetics, Engineering, Mathematics, or Business Administration;
- OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above and a Master’s in Information Science, Computer Information Systems, or Information Systems;
- OR equivalent experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the community college level (desired but not required).
- Experience using innovative teaching methods that encourage student engagement and learning.
- Experience creating socially conscious syllabi, equitable classroom materials, and inclusive pedagogical practices.
- Experience addressing equity issues and working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other minoritized students.
- Experience with course management systems, e.g., Blackboard, Canvas.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Team‑work and collaborative skills.
