Position Description

Ohlone College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for temporary part‑time teaching assignments. Assignments may include day, evening, and weekend courses and may be in‑person, online, or hybrid.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Teach Computer Science courses in accordance with established course outlines.
  2. Evaluate student work using clear criteria relevant to course content and learning outcomes, and provide timely feedback.
  3. Maintain and submit accurate records (grades, syllabi, attendance reports) by published deadlines.
  4. Create an equity‑based and welcoming classroom environment.
  5. Perform duties as described in Board policy, the United Faculty of Ohlone contact, the Faculty Handbook, and as assigned across campus, Newark Center, or eCampus.
Subject Areas
  • Object‑Oriented Programming Using C++, Java, JavaScript (ECMAScript), Python, Ruby, PHP, and other modern programming languages.
  • Related web technologies such as cloud programming, CSS3, and HTML.
  • Virtualization using VMWare, QEMU, VirtualBox, etc.
  • Introduction to database concepts; MySQL software.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering;
  • OR Bachelor’s in either field and a Master’s in Mathematics, Cybernetics, Business Administration, Accounting, or Engineering;
  • OR Bachelor’s in Engineering and a Master’s in Cybernetics, Engineering, Mathematics, or Business Administration;
  • OR Bachelor’s in Mathematics and a Master’s in Cybernetics, Engineering, Mathematics, or Business Administration;
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above and a Master’s in Information Science, Computer Information Systems, or Information Systems;
  • OR equivalent experience.
Desired Qualifications
  1. Teaching experience at the community college level (desired but not required).
  2. Experience using innovative teaching methods that encourage student engagement and learning.
  3. Experience creating socially conscious syllabi, equitable classroom materials, and inclusive pedagogical practices.
  4. Experience addressing equity issues and working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other minoritized students.
  5. Experience with course management systems, e.g., Blackboard, Canvas.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Team‑work and collaborative skills.
