Job summary

Koniag IT Systems, LLC (KITS) in Baltimore, MD is seeking a Computer Operator I to support government customers. The role focuses on operating and troubleshooting mail sorting and related equipment, maintaining inventories, and ensuring productivity in a high-pressure environment.

The ideal candidate has a HS Diploma or equivalent with 1+ year PC experience and is capable of working Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm, with opportunities to grow technical skills in a multi-platform setting.

Qualifications

  • Requires HS Diploma or equivalent and 1+ year PC experience.
  • Some higher education or related programs preferred.
  • Two years experience in mailroom, print ops, or mail sorting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare equipment for operations by accessing software and starting systems.
  • Use terminals to enter commands and adjust settings for daily outputs.
  • Follow procedures to maintain smooth production workflows.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot processes across a multiplatform environment.
  • Respond to program errors and log incidents for monitoring.
  • Assist with inventory control and proper storage of inventory.

Job description

A Computer Operator I will be tasked with monitoring and controlling our operational systems. As a computer operator, you will be responsible for operating and troubleshoot mail sorting machines, other sorting equipment, and maintaining equipment inventories. To ensure success as a computer operator, you should have a strong working knowledge of computer hardware and software systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and be able to work quickly in high-pressure situations. Ultimately, a top-class computer operator can set up, maintain, and troubleshoot operational issues without impeding productivity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepares equipment for operations by accessing software in computer.
  • Uses computer terminals to enter commands, activate equipment controls, and adjust settings to produce quality deliverables daily.
  • Ensures efficient production workflow by attentively following procedural instructions and performing duties immediately.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots issues regarding production processes, deadlines, and data transmissions across a multiplatform environment.
  • Responds to program error messages by finding and correcting problems.
  • Maintains incident logs for all monitored systems.
  • Assists with inventory control practices including identifying and locating the right products during the delivery process and daily workload; properly storing necessary inventory in designated areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Training, & Experience
  • HS Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year of personal computer experience. (required)
  • Some higher education experience or successful completion of related programs in data processing and computer operations. (preferred)
  • Two years of experience in business mailroom, print operations, and/or mail sorting experience. (preferred)
  • Experience with using loading and maneuvering equipment safely and effectively. (preferred)
Qualifications
  • Candidates who hold an active public trust government clearance are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates who are willing to undergo a background investigation to receive a government clearance will be strongly considered.
  • Candidates must be able to work Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm daily. (Hours may vary based on workload and candidates must be flexible)
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Must be able to stand for significant periods of time.
