Job summary

WorkForce WV is seeking an overnight Computer Operator 1 for the Kanawha County area. This onsite, exempt position operates after-hours computing and printing, monitors progress on the computer console, and responds to minor errors.

It requires a high school diploma and provides independent responsibilities in job monitoring and maintenance. Experience in operating computer equipment is needed or substitutions with college credits in computer science.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent.
• Six months of experience operating standard computer equipment including computer consoles, tape drives and printers.
• Substitution: six hours of college credits in computer science or two data processing courses may substitute for the experience.

Responsibilities

• Monitor after-hours computing and printing operations.
• Check system and equipment errors and take corrective action for minor issues.
• Review completed jobs for compliance with user agency specs.
• Maintain job status logs and perform routine maintenance (replace ribbons, paper, etc.).
• Assist in inventory management of supplies.

Computer Operator 1 – Kanawha County – Onsite Position Only

Exempt Position

At WorkForce, WV (WFWV), this position is in the Management Information System section. This position is an overnight Computer Operator responsible for monitoring after-hours (overnight) computing and printing operations. Monitors job progress on computer console and checks for system and equipment errors. Takes corrective action in response to minor error messages. Reviews completed jobs to ensure compliance with user agency or vendor representative of program or equipment problems. Reviews completed jobs to ensure compliance with user agency specifications. Maintains job status logs. Performs routine maintenance and cleaning duties such as replacing ribbons and changing ribbon trains. Maintains stocks of paper and other supplies within the work area. Assists in controlling inventory supplies. Performs other related duties as assigned. Please note, this is an exempt position and is not covered under the merit system administered by the West Virginia Division of Personnel. This is an onsite only position.

Training:

Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent.

Experience:

Six months of experience in the operation of a variety of standard computer equipment including computer consoles, tape drives and printers.

Substitution:

(1) Six hours of college/university credit in computer science courses or, (2) two courses in data processing from an accredited business or vocational school may be substituted for the required experience.
