Job summary

Willcox Matthews Ltd is seeking a CNC Set-Up Machinist for unionized 2nd/3rd shift in the St. Louis area. You will set up, maintain and operate CNC machining centers to produce precision parts and tooling.

Read drawings, select tooling, perform basic troubleshooting, and ensure accurate measurement with calipers, micrometers and indicators. This permanent role offers competitive hourly rates and stable union employment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in machining OR 5+ years machining experience.
  • Strong hands-on CNC machine setup experience.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Experience with CNC tooling, fixtures, and workholding.
  • Knowledge of tool and work offsets.
  • Strong understanding of shop math and machining principles.
  • Ability to use calipers, micrometers, test indicators, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, maintain, and operate CNC machining centers.
  • Manufacture precision parts and tooling to required specifications.
  • Read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Follow setup instructions and tooling lists provided by Engineering.
  • Set up and maintain tooling including drills, end mills, taps, and reamers.
  • Remove, install, and accurately position vises and other fixtures.
  • Adjust tool offsets and work offsets as required.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of CNC machining programs.
  • Calibrate measurement probes, tool setters, and other CNC setup equipment.
  • Carry out routine CNC machine maintenance, including coolant upkeep, cleaning, and filter changes.
  • Prepare materials using equipment such as band saws and surface grinders.
  • Use precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, and test indicators.
  • Operate forklifts and lifting equipment safely when required.

Shift & Pay

2nd Shift

Monday–Friday | 2:30 PM–10:30 PM

Total: $30.59/hr

3rd Shift

Sunday–Thursday | 10:30 PM–6:30 AM

Total: $31.09/hr

These are union positions.

What You'll Be Doing

What We're Looking For

You'll ideally have:

  • An Associate degree in machining OR at least 5 years of machining experience
  • Strong hands-on CNC machine setup experience

This position would suit someone currently working as a CNC Set-Up Machinist, CNC Machinist, CNC Mill Machinist, CNC Setup Technician, Precision Machinist, Toolroom Machinist, CNC Programmer/Machinist, or CNC Manufacturing Technician.
