Job summary

Motion Recruitment is seeking a CNC Machinist II to lead the 2nd shift on the onsite Seattle shop floor. You will set up and operate CNC centers, mentor junior machinists, and ensure production stays on schedule while upholding safety and quality standards.

You will read engineering drawings, interpret setup sheets, and use precision measuring tools to verify parts. This hands-on leadership role requires strong problem-solving and teamwork on fast-paced manufacturing lines.

Qualifications

  • 5-7+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience performing CNC machine setups using setup sheets.
  • Previous experience serving as a Lead, Cell Lead, Shift Lead, or mentoring other machinists.
  • Strong blueprint reading and mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and related inspection tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining and production issues independently.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations for the second shift machining team while serving as the primary technical resource on the floor.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC machining centres to maintain production schedules and quality standards.
  • Read and interpret setup sheets, engineering drawings, and work instructions to ensure accurate part production.
  • Perform machine setups, tool changes, offsets, and process adjustments as needed.
  • Monitor production, identify process improvements, and help minimise downtime.
  • Train, mentor, and support CNC operators while promoting safe manufacturing practices.
  • Collaborate with quality, engineering, maintenance, and production leadership to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Verify finished parts meet dimensional and quality specifications using precision measuring equipment.
  • Maintain accurate production documentation and communicate shift updates to leadership.

CNC Machinist II / Manufacturing / Onsite / Seattle, WA

Our client is a trailblazer in the Robotics industry. They are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist II – 2nd Shift Lead to join a precision manufacturing team supporting the production of critical components used in advanced automation and fulfillment systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on machining professional who enjoys leading by example, mentoring others, and keeping production running efficiently during the second shift.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on the shop floor, enjoys solving problems in real time, and has the technical expertise to perform machine setups while supporting and guiding a team of machinists.

Contract Duration: 11 Months

Required Skills & Experience
  • 5-7+ years of hands‑on CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience performing CNC machine setups using setup sheets.
  • Previous experience serving as a Lead, Cell Lead, Shift Lead, or mentoring other machinists.
  • Strong blueprint reading and mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and related inspection tools.

Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience operating 5-axis CNC machines or mill‑turn equipment.
  • CAM software experience (Mastercam, Fusion 360, GibbsCAM, Esprit, NX CAM, or similar).
  • Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
  • Experience in precision fabrication or manufacturing supporting automation, industrial equipment, or high-volume production.
