Job summary

Master Machine, Inc. in Minneapolis, MN, is seeking a CNC Machinist for a full-time, on-site position. You will set up, operate, and monitor CNC mills and lathes to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.

The role requires interpreting blueprints, selecting tooling, making machine offsets, and occasionally programming at the machine. Strong attention to detail and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Ability to operate and set up CNC equipment with strong machining skills.

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
  • On-site manufacturing work requiring standing for long periods.
  • Previous CNC Machinist experience; trade school or certification is beneficial.
  • Basic computer skills for programming input and production tracking.

Responsibilities

Role Description

The Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist is a full-time, on-site role based in Minneapolis, MN. This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC machines to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. Daily tasks include interpreting blueprints, selecting appropriate tooling, performing machine offsets and adjustments, and verifying measurements with precision instruments. CNC Machinists will also program at the machine from time to time. The CNC Machinist will inspect finished parts for quality and consistency, perform routine machine maintenance, and collaborate with engineers and team members to resolve production issues. The role also involves maintaining a clean and safe work area in compliance with company safety standards.

Primary Duties
  • Creates standard drawings, and creates complex drawings, which involve dimensions, tolerancing, intricate details, auxiliary views, and projections from sketches, layouts, or engineering data as required.
  • Assists in preparing bills of material, engineering change orders, and other documentation.
  • Creates CAD/CAM databases, CAD models, and CAM process models.
  • Creates CNC programs for multitasking mill-turn machine tools and provides some technical support to manufacturing personnel.
  • Performs complex set‑ups and various machining operations as required.
  • Maintains high awareness of safety procedures.
  • Maintains work area in a safe, neat, and orderly manner.
Essential Qualifications
  • Ability to operate and set up CNC equipment, with strong skills in Machine Operation and general Machining.
  • General programming knowledge.
  • Under limited supervision, must be able to do a first‑time run‑through on his or her programs accurately and timely to ensure proper documentation and setup information for repeat runs.
  • Proficiency in Milling and/or Turning processes and working with various types of Machinery used in precision manufacturing.
  • Experience with Quality Control practices, including inspection of parts using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools.
  • Solid understanding of reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Attention to detail, strong problem‑solving skills, and commitment to producing accurate, consistent parts.
  • Ability to work on‑site in a manufacturing environment, including standing for extended periods and handling materials safely.
  • Previous experience as a CNC Machinist or in a similar precision machining role; trade school or technical certification in machining is beneficial.
  • Basic computer skills for machine programming input, job documentation, and production tracking.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with engineers, supervisors, and other machinists.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in CAD/CAM.
  • Experience working with quotes.
  • Working experience and familiarity with Makino machines (highly preferred), among other common brands (Makino A51NX, A55, A66 / Haas VF6, VF4, ST20 / SMEC SL2000 / Nakamura – Tome AS-200L).
Physical Requirements
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds consistently and without help.
  • Be able to carry, bend, push, and twist. The frequency will vary depending on the day’s tasks.
  • Be able to stand or sit for 10 hours per day.
