Job summary

Precision MPI is seeking a CNC Machinist to program, set up, and operate CNC machines for precision-machined parts. You will interpret engineering drawings and CAM models to determine tooling, workholding, and cutting parameters, and perform tool changes and dimensional inspections to ensure quality.

The role emphasizes maintaining production records, adhering to ISO quality practices, and participating in continuous improvements to reduce waste and boost efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Experience with CNC programming, setup, and machine operation.
  • Familiarity with CAM software such as Mastercam, SURFCAM, FeatureCAM or SOLIDWORKS CAM.
  • Knowledge of cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and tooling selection.

Responsibilities

  • Program, edit, and optimize CNC programs for precision-machined parts.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate CNC machinery per job requirements and drawings.
  • Interpret CAD models and production docs to determine tooling, workholding, and cutting parameters.

Job description

The following responsibilities describe the primary functions of the position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:

  • Program, edit, and optimize CNC programs for the manufacturing of precision-machined parts.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate CNC machinery according to job requirements, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, technical specifications, and production documentation to determine machining sequences, tooling, workholding, and cutting parameters.
  • Perform machine setups, tool changes, tool offsets, and necessary process adjustments.
  • Perform in-process and final dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments to ensure parts meet specified requirements.
  • Identify machining process deviations and make authorized adjustments to maintain product quality and process stability.
  • Monitor machine performance, tooling conditions, and machining processes to identify potential issues before they affect product quality.
  • Immediately report equipment malfunctions, tooling issues, quality concerns, or unsafe conditions to the Production Supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and perform basic autonomous maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Follow the company's ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System procedures and applicable customer requirements.
  • Maintain accurate production and inspection records as required by company procedures.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on increasing productivity, reducing waste, improving efficiency, and optimizing manufacturing processes.
  • Follow all applicable industrial safety requirements and properly use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming, setup, and machine operation.
  • Experience with Mastercam, SURFCAM, FeatureCAM, SOLIDWORKS CAM, or similar CAM software preferred.
  • Knowledge of G-code and M-code programming, trigonometry, multiple machine setups, cutting speeds, and feeds.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, inside and outside micrometers, indicators, depth gauges, and other inspection equipment.
  • Knowledge of cutting tools, tool holders, inserts, workholding devices, and machining fixtures.
  • Understanding of machining processes, tooling selection, and basic principles of precision manufacturing.
