Performs diagnostic CT procedures within the CT Department utilizing specific equipment for that purpose. Rotates through diagnostic radiology as assigned. Involved in the practice of radiation and general safety at all times.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE
  • Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
  • Radiography certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) within 6 months of hire.
  • Must possess current or temporary Radiography license as required by state board where services will be provided

MD: Radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians

OH: Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology

PA: No state license is required

WV: Radiography License OR Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic CT License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.

  • One (1) year of experience as a computed tomography technologist.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares room, equipment, materials, as needed for patient exams, including sterile technique. Cleans and disinfects rooms and equipment following each patient exam, using current infection control policies.
  • Performs examinations per Physician’s orders and explains procedures to the patients. Documents any variations from protocol due to patient’s condition or other unknown cause and relays patient history and clinical data to Radiologist.
  • Observes patient and equipment and reports any unusual occurrences or changes. Transports and assists patients as needed.
  • Documents status of patient in reference to radiology/CT procedure on patient’s chart.
  • Documents variances repeats and other such occurrences to help maintain high quality health care and opportunity for quality improvement.
  • Maintains stock supplies, performs general office duties, responsible for proper film labeling and following prescribed techniques to assure acceptable quality and consistency.
  • Practices safe radiation exposure and protection as well as general safety for patient’s, visitors, and staff at all times.
  • Complies with policy and procedures for the departmental and hospital wide programs. Participates in the patient safety training and patient protection, including the needs and methods to report medical/ healthcare errors and abuse.
  • Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing CT equipment and effectively judges CT images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology. Performs critical procedures under stress during emergency procedures.
  • If applicable, performs diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered by physician. Performs diagnostic studies in surgical suite with C-Arm and other equipment.
  • Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
  • Administer IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging procedures per radiologist protocol/department manual and ordering physician/care provider order.
  • Utilize PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for the radiologist to read and for the referring physician/care provider review.
  • Performs all related duties as assigned by department manager or other duties assigned by lead technologist.
For Facilities With Specialty Accreditation Requirements
  • Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.

  • Knowledge of growth and development, understanding of the patient’s needs and scope of treatment.

  • Knowledge of total care of patients, whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on the control of pain and other symptoms.

To apply for the next level, the computed tomography technologist must meet the requirements of their current level. They must also meet the required years of experience, degree, and certification to apply for the next level.

Level 1
  • No experience required.
  • All computed tomography technologists with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level one.
Level 2
  • Meets requirements for previous level.
  • One year of experience.
  • Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1.
Level 3
  • Meets requirements for previous levels.
  • One continuing education pathway.
  • Three years of experience.
  • Compliant in 3 leadership/supervisory skills.
  • Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus 3 additional skill sets
Level 4
  • Meets requirements for previous levels.
  • One continuing education pathway.
  • Five years of experience.
  • Compliant in 5 leadership/supervisory skills.
  • Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus 5 additional skill sets
