Job summary

Lila Sciences in Cambridge, MA, is seeking a Computational Scientist I/II in Soft Matter Formulations, Solids and Melts to develop models, tools, and workflows that accelerate discovery across polymeric and soft material systems.

You will apply machine learning to connect formulation choices, processing history, structure, morphology, and performance, building structure‑property models for solid and viscoelastic materials and collaborating with experimental teams to align models with measurement

Qualifications

  • Experience applying machine learning to polymer/soft matter problems.
  • Domain expertise in polymer science, elastomers, gels, adhesives, composites, rheology, solid materials, or related fields.
  • Strong Python skills and experience with modern ML frameworks.
  • Ability to use simulations, theory, descriptors, or mechanistic understanding to inform modeling choices for polymer and soft material systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop structure-property models for solid and viscoelastic materials.
  • Build processing-aware representations and active learning workflows.
  • Create tools to help scientists interpret data and prioritize formulation decisions.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to align models with measurement workflows and performance requirements.

Skills

Strong Python skills

Communication skills

Education

PhD in chemical engineering, materials science, physics, applied mathematics, computational science, or related field
Master's degree with equivalent relevant experience
