Job summary

Lila Sciences is seeking a Computational Scientist I/II in Cambridge, MA to develop ML models for complex fluids and connect composition to microstructure and bulk properties. You will build active learning workflows and integrate mesoscale or continuum simulations to improve predictions and decision-making.

You will collaborate with experimental teams to align models with measurement workflows and contribute to formulation science across coatings, lubricants, and heat-transfer fluids.

Qualifications

  • Experience applying machine learning to scientific, materials-focused, complex fluid or formulation problems.
  • Domain expertise in colloids, emulsions, surfactants, polymer solutions, rheology, interfacial science, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with rheology, phase stability, dispersion, aggregation, sedimentation, wetting, surface tension, foaming, or related properties.
  • Strong Python skills and experience with modern ML frameworks.
  • Experience training, evaluating, and improving models using experimental, simulation, or scientific datasets.
  • Ability to use simulations or mechanistic understanding to inform modeling choices for complex fluid systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop machine learning models for complex fluid systems and connect composition to microstructure and bulk properties.
  • Build structure–property models linking composition, processing, and fluid behavior.
  • Design active learning workflows over continuous compositional spaces.
  • Incorporate mesoscale/continuum simulation outputs where they improve prediction.
  • Create tools to help scientists interpret complex fluid data and guide formulation decisions.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to align models with measurement workflows.
