Job summary

Walter P Moore is seeking a Computational Designer to lead the development and application of advanced digital workflows and data‑driven strategies to enhance project delivery across the firm.

You will collaborate closely with structural engineering teams on complex, high‑impact projects while contributing to the growth of firmwide digital practice initiatives alongside other computational design specialists.

Qualifications

• 3+ years developing and applying advanced digital workflows in AEC.
• Bachelor's or Master's in Architecture or Civil Engineering with Structural focus.
• Understanding of BIM, parametric modeling, computational design, interoperability.
• Expert knowledge of Rhinoceros and Grasshopper.
• Experience using Revit with project teams.
• Strong visual communication with data visuals, diagrams, 3D renderings.
• Proactive, organized, client‑service oriented.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy digital workflows via code and visual scripting.
• Develop BIMs and model‑related deliverables.
• Maintain scripting standards across Structural teams.

Computational Designer – Structural

Responsibilities

Walter P Moore has an immediate opening for a Computational Designer. As a Computational Designer, you will lead the development and application of advanced digital workflows and data‑driven strategies to enhance project delivery across the firm. You will collaborate closely with structural engineering teams on complex, high‑impact projects while contributing to the growth of firmwide digital practice initiatives alongside other computational design specialists.

This role requires strong communication and presentation skills, a proactive mindset for continuous improvement, and a commitment to lifelong learning. You will work across multiple projects simultaneously, partnering with interdisciplinary teams located in various offices. The position also involves direct engagement with clients throughout the project lifecycle and participation in industry events.

In addition to project work, you will play a key role in advancing digital initiatives across the firm. This includes supporting the development, implementation, and adoption of new tools and technologies, as well as educating and collaborating with colleagues across departments. A successful candidate brings curiosity, adaptability, and a passion for exploring innovative solutions within the AEC industry.

• Assist in the development and deployment of digital workflows via code and visual scripting


• Assist in the development of BIMs and model‑related deliverables


• Develop, communicate and maintain scripting and modeling standards across the Structural Engineering project delivery teams


• Develop and maintain online documentation around the latest digital practices across the firm


• Assist in the training of staff on the latest digital tools and standards being applied on projects


• Identify opportunities for improvement in project delivery related to technology and data‑driven processes


• Develop visuals for communicating with clients and project teams to inform better design decisions


• Research and evaluate emerging technologies and their application to our projects

Qualifications & Required Skills

• 3+ years of experience in developing and applying advanced digital workflows in the AEC industry


• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering


• Understanding of BIM as a process and concepts of parametric modeling, computational design, and interoperability


• Expert knowledge of Rhinoceros and Grasshopper


• Experience using Revit with project teams in professional settings


• Ability to communicate visually with data visualizations, diagrams, and 3D renderings


• Capability of learning new software and associated techniques quickly


• Candidates must be proactive, have strong organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be client‑service oriented

Desired, but not Required

• Experience in a programming language (ideally Python, C#, or Javascript)


• Experience with Git and collaborative coding


• Experience with web development


• Understanding of Machine Learning fundamentals and applications.


• Experience using Rhino.Inside


• Experience using PowerBI or similar data visualization tools


• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite


• Experience using Tekla Structures


• Experience with structural analysis software such as ETABs and SAP2000

Hybrid Firm Position

As a Hybrid Firm, Walter P Moore combines the best of both worlds - blending work options to include in‑office and home office environments. This allows us to offer more flexibility and work‑life integration to our employees. Candidates applying for this position should have the ability to commute to or periodically travel to the affiliated office.

To ensure the ability to set up a suitable home office space, Walter P Moore offers a one‑time $1,000 stipend that would be paid upon completion of the first week of employment. An additional $50 monthly stipend will also be provided to cover ongoing home office expenses.
