Anthropic’s Life Sciences team is building a research group focused on biological discoveries by combining AI with hands-on biological research. We're seeking a research scientist who combines deep chemistry knowledge with machine learning to join the team.

You'll design RL environments and datasets for chemistry tasks and collaborate with bench chemists and AI researchers. The role is on-site in the San Francisco Bay Area and offers competitive compensation, visa sponsorship, and opportunities

Qualifications

• PhD in chemistry, computational chemistry, or related field.
• Deep knowledge of organic and medicinal chemistry with experimental data as ground truth.
• Strong Python skills and real ML experience.

Responsabilités

• Design and build reinforcement learning environments for chemistry end to end.
• Design and source new experimental datasets, environments, and evaluations with bench chemists and partners.
• Develop evaluations measuring model performance on real chemistry tasks (reaction prediction, synthesis planning).
• Run and analyze training experiments; diagnose failures and prioritize work.
• Ensure datasets/environments are high quality with sources, splits, and failure modes.
• Communicate findings clearly to chemistry, AI, and life sciences teams.
