Tempus AI is seeking a Scientist II to join the Computational Biology, Pharma R&D team in Chicago. You will integrate large-scale molecular and clinical data to generate insights for drug discovery and development, and build tools to scale analyses using AI.

The role blends strong computational and statistical skills with biology, requiring collaboration with external stakeholders and comfort with real-world data and AI technologies.

Qualifications

• PhD in related field or Master’s with 3+ years experience.
• Proficiency in R and/or Python with scientific computing libraries.
• Experience with ML, LLM-based coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex), and agentic frameworks.
• Adherence to good software engineering practices (version control, modular code, documentation).
• Experience with SQL and large relational databases.
• Strong grounding in statistics and data analysis, including study design and interpretation of real-world data.
• Scientific knowledge: cancer biology, immunology, or human disease mechanisms.
• Experience analyzing large-scale biological datasets (NGS, RNA-seq) in oncology/immunology.

Responsibilities

• Partner with pharma collaborators to execute computational research plans leveraging Tempus multimodal platform.
• Perform robust analyses integrating genomic, transcriptomic, imaging, and clinical data.
• Apply statistical methods to inform trial design, patient selection, and treatment response.
• Incorporate LLMs, agentic workflows, and foundation models to accelerate workflows.
• Develop and implement methods for real-world, clinical, and omics data analysis.
• Collaborate with Research, Clinical, Data Science, and Engineering to build scalable solutions.
• Communicate methods and results to technical and non-technical stakeholders; prepare reports and manuscripts.
