Job Details

The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) at Thomas Jefferson University seeks a Computational Biologist to serve in our Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, and Research Informatics Shared Resource. This role primarily guides experimental design and provides computational biology support for research studies.

Responsibilities
  • Work with principal investigators and study teams to determine experimental needs for downstream analysis.
  • Analyze large-scale, high-throughput datasets including spatial transcriptomics, single-cell multimodal omics, bulk and single-cell RNA‑seq, ChIP‑seq, whole exome/genome sequencing, and more.
  • Build automated analytic workflows and pipelines for bioinformatics analyses.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Interact with co‑workers, visitors, and staff in accordance with iSCORE values.
Competencies
  • Collaborate with shared resource members to align and standardize workflows.
  • Review and maintain standard operating procedures for the bioinformatics core.
  • Propose new policies and guidelines to meet the evolving needs of the SCCC research community.
  • Maintain and document project requests, analyses, and metrics.
  • Troubleshoot issues across projects and provide feedback on improvement opportunities.
  • Contribute to bioinformatics training efforts for the SCCC community.
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication skills and the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Show willingness to learn new technologies and work independently to organize and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Mentor new staff and perform special projects as required.
Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a closely related field; or a Bachelor’s degree with more than three years of experience in a bioinformatics‑related field.
  • Experience with Linux environments.
  • NGS expertise.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as R or Python.
  • Ability to discuss project scope, requirements, deliverables, and timelines with investigators and research staff.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to interpret and explain complex concepts to varied audiences.
