Job summary

Bright Innovation Labs is seeking a Compounding Supervisor to oversee the Compounding Department, directing daily activities to ensure accurate, timely production of bulk materials per SOPs and cGMP guidelines.

You will supervise compounders and material handlers, manage schedules, and drive KPI achievement while maintaining safety and quality. Prior manufacturing and leadership experience required; Lean/Six Sigma and FDA environment experience preferred.

  • Minimum two years of experience supervising hourly direct reports, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Experience in liquid manufacturing is preferred.
  • Strong mathematical skills and ability to read, analyze and interpret SOPs and manufacturing instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise compounding, material handlers, and sanitizers in the Compounding Department; interview, hire and train employees; plan and direct work to meet KPI targets.
  • Lead and organize activities to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant production of bulk products; coordinate with line leads, schedulers and mechanics.
  • Maintain inventory rotation, verify compliance with SOPs, training and cGMP; conduct audits and implement corrective actions as needed.

Job description

SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

Oversee staff responsible for the efficient, accurate and consistent processing of all raw materials needed for the quality production of personal care products manufactured to customer specifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Compounding Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling all functions within the Compounding Department related to the manufacturing of bulk products in accordance with applicable standard operating procedures (SOP) and work instructions (WI) during their shift.
  • Leads, assigns, and supervises the activities of compounding and pre‑weigh departments to achieve KPI targets, quality expectations, and uphold a safe work environment. Record key metrics for measurement of target adherence.
  • Work with production supervisors, line leads, coordinators, schedulers and mechanics to monitor the efficient and consistent flow of product that is verified to be correct and within specification to the production lines. Coordinate with warehouse personnel the unloading and storage of raw material. Organize raw material and manage inventory rotation.
  • Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and expedite work flow in the compounding department. Measure production output and monitor product quality. Verify/perform training and adherence in proper equipment operation, manufacturing procedures, SOP's, work instructions and cGMP compliance.
  • Verify accuracy and compliance of all department paperwork.
  • Conduct investigations into batching issues, safety incidents, and deviations to assure that root causes are identified and appropriate corrective action actions are taken and/or implemented.
  • Conduct safety training for all department employees on their shift. Document all accidents, near‑misses and injuries, and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Develop and maintain good housekeeping procedures. Initiate new standard operating procedures and edit existing procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to all procedures and OSHA requirements.
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance and readiness.
  • Assist to develop, implement, and execute action plans related to internal and external audit results, which may include improvements to SOPs, manufacturing instructions, GMP and safety processes and/or procedures.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for operational opportunities. Implement immediate countermeasures and/or escalate when necessary.
  • Tracks inventory levels of all department consumables and create purchase requisitions for replenishment as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft office suite and ERP software.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret SOP's, manufacturing instructions, and work instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand safety data sheets and experience with GHS labeling.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.
  • Ability to work with, understand, and interpret mathematical calculations/conversions relating to weights, measurements, and formulas of raw materials and finished bulk.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals to successfully accomplish compounding needs and demands.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude/background is preferred.
  • Experience with six sigma or lean manufacturing preferred.
  • Experience working in an FDA regulated environment strongly preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises compounders, material handlers, and sanitizers in the Compounding Department. Responsibilities also include interviewing, hiring, and monitoring training of employees; planning, assigning and directing work. Coaching and developing compounders, sanitizers, and pre‑weigh technicians to promote growth and advancement within the company. Identify hourly employees' strengths and weaknesses and provide real‑time feedback.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This position functions on the compounding floor and therefore, will experience characteristics commonly found in a liquids manufacturing setting. Characteristics would include (but not limited to):
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Exposure to chemicals during the handling of which PPE is required.
  • Hot/humid conditions.
  • Wet conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to lift 45 lbs.
  • Must be flexible to be trained in all work areas.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full‑time position. The base days and hours are Monday through Friday, eight (8) hours per day depending on shift assigned.

TRAVEL

No travel is expected for this position.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) (4 year degree preferred).
  • A minimum of two years of experience supervising hourly direct reports, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Liquid manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
