Job summary

Laborup is seeking a Composites Manufacturing Engineer to improve and scale manufacturing processes for complex composite products. You will spend meaningful time on the production floor, identifying problems, analyzing process performance, and implementing practical improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience with gel coating, vacuum infusion, resin transfer molding, open molding, and tooling fabrication.
• Hands-on on the manufacturing floor while working with the composites production team.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot manufacturing challenges and drive projects to implementation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work across all organization levels.

Responsibilities

• Composite Process Engineering: Own and improve composite manufacturing processes to optimize product flow, reduce variation, and increase productivity.
• Process Improvement: Identify manufacturing problems, perform root cause analysis, develop solutions, document changes, train personnel, and support implementation.
• Data & Analysis: Collect and analyze manufacturing and process data to understand performance and measure improvements.
• Equipment & Technology: Evaluate and implement new equipment, technologies, and methods within composite fabrication.
• New Product Introduction: Support prototype builds, new model development, and transition of new products into production.
• Manufacturing Documentation: Create and maintain component layouts, material layouts, build documentation, drawings, and BOMs.
• As-Built Documentation: Capture and maintain accurate as-built information to reflect the actual process.
• Engineering Changes: Create, implement, and catalog Engineering Change Notices related to composite fabrication.
• Manufacturing Standards: Develop and maintain standards for adhesives, caulks, silicones.
• Cross-Functional Support: Work with production and other functions to solve technical problems and improve performance.

Overview

We’re hiring a Composites Manufacturing Engineer to help improve and scale the manufacturing processes behind complex composite products.

This is a hands‑on manufacturing engineering role focused on reducing process variation, improving productivity, and developing more consistent and efficient composite fabrication processes. You’ll spend meaningful time directly on the production floor, working alongside the composites team to understand problems, analyze process performance, and implement practical improvements.

Your work will span the full manufacturing process—from troubleshooting existing production challenges and conducting root cause analysis to introducing new equipment, supporting prototype builds, developing manufacturing documentation, and helping transition new models into production.

You’ll work across a range of composite manufacturing technologies, including gel coating, vacuum infusion, resin transfer molding, open molding, tooling fabrication, adhesives, caulks, and silicones.

Compensation

• $85k - $90k / yr

• Manufacturing Standards: Develop and maintain composite manufacturing standards, including standards related to adhesives, caulks, and silicones.
• Cross-Functional Support: Work closely with production personnel and other functions to solve technical problems and improve manufacturing performance.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience with multiple composite manufacturing processes, including gel coating, vacuum infusion, resin transfer molding, open molding, and tooling fabrication.
• Experience applying engineering tools, methods, and problem‑solving techniques within a manufacturing environment.
• Willingness to be highly hands‑on on the manufacturing floor while working directly with the composites production team.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot manufacturing challenges, analyze problems, and drive projects through implementation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with employees across all levels of the organization.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with 2D and 3D CAD.
• Familiarity with NX, Rhino, and/or AutoCAD.
• Experience developing manufacturing drawings, material layouts, bills of material, or composite build documentation.
• Experience supporting prototype builds or new product introduction.
• Experience implementing manufacturing equipment or new composite processing technologies.
• Familiarity with engineering change control and manufacturing standards.
