Job summary

Composite Factory in Mooresville, NC is seeking a hands-on Composite Design Engineer to rotate through the factory and join the Engineering department. This role focuses on designing composite components, creating CATIA 3D models, and preparing engineering documentation for manufacturing and customer requirements.

You will collaborate with production teams, vendors, and customers to ensure efficient design implementation, quality, and on-time delivery while staying current with evolving

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3-5 years of design engineering experience.
  • Proficient in CATIA for composite design with understanding of tolerances.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with teams, vendors, and customers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office for documentation and project management.
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (ITAR compliance).

Responsibilities

  • Complete a departmental rotation to learn CF's processes, with a final placement in Engineering.
  • Develop accurate 3D models, preliminary layouts, and laminating production details per release deadlines.
  • Prepare engineering drawings and technical documentation for composite part manufacturing and customer data submissions.
  • Act as a liaison with production teams during the initial manufacturing phase to identify and resolve engineering challenges.
  • Analyze and solve design and manufacturing issues to improve efficiency and product quality.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies in composite manufacturing to enhance design and production processes.
  • Collaborate with vendors to evaluate supplier lead times, costs, and tooling availability for production.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring alignment on project requirements and expectations.
  • Adhere to all health and safety procedures, workplace policies, and industry regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Position Overview

The Composite Design Engineer will complete a hands‑on factory orientation to gain a comprehensive understanding of Composite Factory's processes, culminating in a permanent placement in the Engineering department. This role involves designing and developing composite components, creating detailed CATIA 3D models, and preparing engineering documentation to support manufacturing and customer requirements. The engineer will collaborate with production teams, vendors, and customers to ensure efficient design implementation and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering drawings and technical documentation for composite part manufacturing and customer data submissions.
  • Act as a liaison with production teams during the initial manufacturing phase to identify and resolve engineering challenges.
  • Analyze and solve design and manufacturing issues to improve efficiency and product quality.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and advancements in composite manufacturing to enhance design and production processes.

What You Will Bring to the Team

Hours of Operation:

7:00 am – 4:00 pm; Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends, overtime, and holidays as scheduled by leadership.
