Job summary

Nammo Defense Systems Inc. in Mesa, AZ is seeking a Composite Technician to support production of carbon fiber tubes and related assemblies. You will fabricate, cure and assemble composite components, read blueprints, and ensure parts meet drawings and internal specs.

Collaboration with the team and strict adherence to safety and export controls are essential. You will monitor processes, troubleshoot equipment, and handle labeling, testing, and daily production tasks.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing and processing of advanced composite materials preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain BATF approval to work with products.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development and optimization of composite production.
  • Fabricate, cure carbon fiber composite tubes.
  • Build laminated assemblies in winding operations; apply materials and adhesives.
  • Troubleshoot equipment; monitor process parameters; adjust settings to meet drawings.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Set up spray booths; load/unload mandrels; run cure cycles.
  • Operate test machines and run daily production quantities.
  • Report operational variances; use computer and database for work instructions.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.

Nammo Defense Systems Inc., a defense contractor, manufactures and supports shoulder-fired systems; energetic material solutions such as aircraft emergency escape systems, actuation devices, rocket motors, warheads, medium & large caliber ammunitions, mortar ammunition; and composite solutions including carbon fiber tubes and composite aero-structures.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and optimization of the production of composite tubes
  • Fabricates, cures carbon fiber composite tubes.
  • Builds laminated assemblies in a filament winding operation, apply composite, plastic and metal parts and adhesives onto tools or molds.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, monitor process parameters, adjust equipment settings as needed to obtain parts that meet customer drawings and internal requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Set up spray booths to apply etching and primer compound to tubes
  • Load/unload winding machine mandrels into oven, run cure cycles
  • Pull mandrels from composite structure (de-mold)
  • Operate compression test machine to verify proof loads
  • Run daily production quantities
  • Recognize and report all operational variances as trained
  • Ability to use a computer and database to download work instructions
  • Basic knowledge in using precision measuring tools, i.e. micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, etc.
Required Experience & Skills
  • High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required
  • 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing and processing of advanced composite materials preferred
  • Ability to interact and communicate as part of a highly functioning team
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to obtain BATF approval to work with our products.
