Description

Where Innovation Takes Flight

At Applied Aerospace & Defense, we don’t just make parts — we craft the advanced composite components that help aircraft soar, rockets launch, and innovations take shape. Every tube, fairing, and structure that leaves our facility is built with precision, pride, and the knowledge that it plays a role in shaping the future of aerospace technology.

If you thrive on technical challenge, precision craftsmanship, and the satisfaction of seeing your work reach the skies, this is where you belong.

If you’re looking for more than a job — if you want to build components that make flight possible — join the team at Applied Aerospace & Defense and help shape the future of aerospace innovation. Made in the Gorge – Flying all over the World!

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

The Composite Technician is a key contributor to the fabrication and finishing of high-performance composite (carbon fiber and fiberglass) components used across the aerospace industry. Working with advanced pre-preg materials (no wet layup or harsh fumes), you’ll apply technical expertise and craftsmanship to produce precision parts through specialized layup, rolling, curing, machining, and inspection processes.

This position demands more than basic production skills — it requires an experienced, detail-driven professional who can interpret technical instructions, meet demanding tolerances, and consistently deliver aerospace-grade quality.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Execute precise layup and lamination of composite materials using both hand and automated techniques.
  • Perform advanced rolling of composite tubing with power-driven table roll systems, ensuring alignment, ply orientation, and structural integrity.
  • Conduct cello-wrapping, vacuum bagging, and controlled curing in ovens and presses to achieve engineered specifications.
  • Remove, de-tool, and prepare finished parts, ensuring zero-defect quality.
  • Perform detailed finishing operations: trimming, bonding, machining, and inspection using precision tools and gauges.
  • Support tooling preparation, maintenance, and fabrication for continuous production flow.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to improve process efficiency, material performance, and part consistency.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safety-focused work environments that reflect the precision of our products.
  • Uphold company standards for craftsmanship, documentation, and production quality that align with aerospace requirements.
SKILLS EXPERIENCE EDUCATION:
  • 3+ years of composite manufacturing or advanced fabrication experience (aerospace, automotive, sporting goods, or similar precision environment).
  • Expertise in carbon fiber pre-preg layup, vacuum processing, trimming, bonding, and finishing.
  • Familiarity with machining, tooling preparation, or autoclave/oven operations.
  • Proven ability to follow detailed work instructions and maintain aerospace-level quality standards.
  • Proficiency with measurement instruments and documentation of inspection results.
  • High school diploma or GED required; additional technical training or composite certification strongly preferred.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Work is primarily indoors in a temperature-variable manufacturing environment. Regular standing, bending, lifting (up to 75 lbs. with assistance), and precise manual work are required.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive pay commensurate with experience and skill level
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid Time Off (PTO), Holidays and Sick Leave
  • Opportunities for professional growth and skill development in a high-tech, aerospace environment
