Job summary

Iconma is seeking a Composite Technician for our Kinston, NC location to lay out, assemble and bond metal and composite fabrications following detailed specifications. The role requires hands-on experience with layups, prep, bonding cycles, and the use of precision tools and layout equipment.

Candidates should have experience with autoclaves, presses, solvents, and adherence to safety standards. Strong communication and teamwork will be essential in this role.

Qualifications

  • 2 years minimum experience in aviation production or equivalent.
  • Experience with layups, assembling, prefitting, and bonding metal/composite fabrications.
  • Preferred 5+ years in aviation production.
  • Experience using SAP and Excel.
  • Ability to use a variety of tools and maintain safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lays out, assembles, pre-fits, and bonds metal, composite or laminate fabrications.
  • Follows specifications to determine parts and bonding temperatures/pressures.
  • Cuts parts to size.
  • Operates autoclave, hydraulic presses and ovens to complete bonding cycle.
  • Sands, burrs and smoothes areas.
  • Applies sealing resins to edges.
  • Process methods vary with materials and layup transitions.
  • May perform rework or repair per procedures.
  • Use layup tools for fabrication of assemblies.
  • Obtain information from prints and work orders.
  • Use shop math and precision measuring tools.
  • Verify work per instructions and specifications.
  • Ensure equipment and tool certification.
  • Use solvents and cleaners per procedures.
  • Perform routine minor machine maintenance.
  • Move product within the work area as needed.
  • Support continuous flow by training and assisting staff.

Job description

Our client, an Aeronautics and Space company, is looking for multiple Composite Technicians for their Kinston, NC location.


Responsibilities
  • Lays out, assembles, pre-fits, and bonds a variety of metal, composite or laminate fabrications, assemblies, parts, skins or equipment.
  • Follows engineering and manufacturing specifications and orders to determine parts to be bonded and the temperature and pressure required.
  • Cuts parts or materials to size.
  • Operates autoclave, hydraulic presses and ovens to complete the bonding cycle.
  • Sands, burrs and smoothes over areas.
  • Applies sealing resins to cut or exposed edges.
  • Process methods and sequences vary depending on compounds, contours and layup transitions.
  • May perform complicated rework or repair. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with
  • controlled procedures.
  • Utilize layup tools, which include both optical and hard tools, in the fabrication of composite and metal assemblies.
  • Obtain required information from prints, charts, sketches, work orders, documents, verbal and electronic information.
  • Use shop mathematics and precision measuring instruments to complete work assignments.
  • Must verify work performed is per work instruction and meets process and/or engineering specification.
  • Ensure equipment and tool certification occurs per procedure.
  • Use and control of solvents and cleaning solutions in the preparation of details, tools, and assemblies for bonding and paint per established procedures.
  • Perform routine minor machine maintenance as part of their daily work duties
  • Routinely move product within the immediate manufacturing work area, including across isle, using shop assigned equipment as required and complete transactions necessary to move product to the next operation.
  • On an exception basis, moves product to the next operation within a building.
  • Support the continuous flow of product within the manufacturing process by training and assisting employees at all classification levels.

Requirements
  • Knowledge of station safety, quality (clean as you go / Foreign Object Debris) and OSHA regulations
  • Must have basic skills of using a variety of tools
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to articulate complex issues to others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters is essential.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in interpersonal skills.
  • 2 years’ minimum experience in aviation production or equivalent
  • Previous experience with layups, assembling, prefitting, and bonding a variety of metal, composite or laminate fabrications, assemblies, parts, skins or equipment
  • Preferred 5+ years minimum experience in aviation production
  • Able to enter, generate and retrieve information using a computer (SAP and Excel knowledge required)
  • High School Diploma/GED or WorkKeys Assessment completion
  • The ability to successfully complete the following training provided by Airbus after recruitment: Health & Safety, General aircraft familiarization, Quality Training
  • Training from a vocational school or previous employer in the use of composite layups and fabrication
