Job summary

PHK is seeking a Composite/Carbon Fiber Technician in Beaverton, OR. The role focuses on fabrication and analysis of composite and carbon fiber parts for prototyping, with 1–2 years in manufacturing or lab settings. On-site, 12-month contract, degree preferred but not required.

Responsibilities include layup, molding, sanding, bonding, curing, and quality inspections, working with vacuum systems and ovens, and collaborating with engineers to develop processes and fixtures for future products.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; an assoc. degree in Composites Technology preferred.
• Basic understanding of carbon fiber and fiberglass prepreg layup; ability to layup, fabricate and assemble components.
• Understanding of kitting, vacuum bagging, and compression molding processes.
• Proven experience with composite materials such as carbon fiber or fiberglass prepreg.
• Experience with layup techniques, curing, bonding, and finishing of composites.
• Proficient with hand and power tools for cutting, trimming, and shaping composites.
• Ability to read technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
• Attention to detail and precision with delicate materials and intricate designs.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Knowledge of safety procedures in manufacturing.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to prioritize tasks.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Composite/Carbon Fiber Technician

Location: Beaverton, OR

Duration: 12 months

Job Description:

• On-site role at PHK; 5 days on site, typical work hours
• Contract is to help with project support; will run ~1 year from start date
• Degree preferred, not a hard requirement
• 1-2 years’ experience required in a manufacturing facility/lab

Top must-have skills include the following:

• Understanding of/experience with carbon fiber, composite materials and processes
• Experience with presses, vacuum systems
• Hands on experience in a lab or manufacturing environment
• Works well in ambiguity
• Good multitasking skills
• ETW will help support work related to shoes coming through the lab that will have a carbon fiber plate in them; will assist with making the plates and prototyping for future products
• 1-2 rounds of interviews anticipated

Description:

• As a Composite/Carbon Fiber Technician, you will be responsible for the fabrication and analysis of composite and carbon fiber components.

• Collaborate with engineers and designers to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including production records, inspection reports, and material usage.
• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Perform cut up analysis on fabricated and tested parts.

• Basic understanding of carbon fiber and fiberglass prepreg laminate layup definition and ability to layup, fabricate and assemble components to completion.
• Understanding of processes such as kitting, vacuum bagging, and compression molding.
• Proven experience working with composite materials, such as carbon fiber or fiberglass prepreg.
• Experience with composite manufacturing processes, including layup techniques, curing, bonding, and finishing.
